TMI - leaking fluid?

I'm almost 17 weeks pregnant and this past few days I've noticed my underwear has been quite wet. I'm worried in case I'm leaking amniotic fluid. How can you tell if it's fluid or just normal discharge? It's very very watery! Help 😬

Hi Kitcat, have you come over from fertility network too? Congratulations!

I definitely had more discharge throughout my pregnancy and often felt my knickers were a little “damp” but I would definitely check it out with your midwife or gp. They have swans that can test for amniotic fluid to ensure you are not losing any at this early stage. I’m sure it’s nothing to worry about but always best to get checked out. Have you tried lying down and seeing after an hour if you have more tricking out as it often “pools”.

It’s so hard not to worry and be anxious after a hard journey to pregnancy. Good luck and get in touch with your midwife or gp. Xx

Hi had the same problem I know if wasn’t discharge as it was clear like water it started at around same time as you and it is getting more or less depending on a day (I am no 35 weeks) I had all check out at the hospital to ensure it isn’t my waters but all was confirmed it is not a water. I was told to monitor baby moves and call if I notice reduce moves. As you are only 17 weeks I guess you have not yet felt the baby, but soon you should and this will give you some assurance.

Sometimes as the baby will be pressing on your bladder this might mean you are leaking a little - yet another perk of pregnancy. Good you went to EPU to check it out but sure it is nothing.

I had exactly the same through my pregnancy, had to wear a pad in the end because it got so bad! Mine was very watery and colourless. I didn’t get it checked out as I’d read it was normal, but if you are worried I would definitely see your GP, otherwise maybe mention it at your next midwife apt?
