Baby taking a 'day off' every once in a while, has anyone else had this?

Hi all,

From my understanding babies should most of the time have a pattern of when they are most active and you should feel them once in a while throughout the day. My little one seems to not have any pattern other than he'll be happily active all day long everyday and then about every 7-10 days he seems to take a rest day. This has happened now about 3-4 times to me since week 26 (I'm now 32+5),the first time I was really freaked out and got checked up in hospital and everything was fine and the last 2 times it happened I'm obviously still freaking out about it but have now learnt to eat sugary things/drinks, lots of cold water and lie on my side relaxing for half hour and then I can usually feel him sluggishly moving about. Next day he's back to his usually active self.. I feel like next time I should go to the hospital but I also feel like that's his pattern... But I don't know if anyone else has gone thru this or if there's any advice? Really just hoping for some reassurance..

when I was pregnant with my lb he was so active through the night and through the day I would feel him kicking and moving but not as much as I did at night.... he would have days off where he would only kick a little bit.... I layed on my left hand side for 2 hours as I was told to and I drank lots of cold water and ate surgery stuff. I also made a chart and wrote down when he moved and the times it happend ( might sound sad ) but it helped ... so your doing things right... dont panic to much the time to get checked out if you dont feel him moving at all xx

I have had a similar experience to you. I feel like I'm wasting time but the midwives would rather see you than have you stressed and something go wrong. My baby has had the odd quiet day and first I just brushed it off but I did once go in to hospital for monitoring. The midwives would not have a problem if you wanted to be checked.

Can I recommend a kicks count bracelet. I got mine online. It helps me to keep track of baby, as I do feel that on busier days Im less aware of movement but it doesn't mean the baby hasn't moved. The bracelet has really helped ease my nerves. Google it (I'll look for a link and repost too).

Could you have had a busy day and just not been aware? If not, don't feel like you are being ott, call your midwife triage number and explain your concerns.

I hope everything is ok.

I got a blue one and it's quite cute. Just move the band along each time you feel a separate period of movement.

I had exactly this and I took it as baby’s routine. I mentioned it in passing to my midwife and I got a telling of saying baby shouldn’t have a rest day. However it was totally normal for me (from when I could feel properly at 26 weeks) so I didn’t listen to her rightly or wrongly I don’t know but if I was ever worried (which I wasn’t) I wouldn’t of hesitated in contacting the triage line. The midwives won’t ever mind you going in if you feel like you need to xx

This totally happened with my lg. My consultant said that was her routine and now she is here she has days of being busy and then rest days however if you are ever in doubt always get checked that is what the midwifes are there for and will welcome you any time xx

I had days when mine moved at the right times but not for as long or as strong but was back to normal the next day. I have no idea if it was positioning or not but she was fine as is now a happy 9 month old. I’d say if you are ever worried please get checked out, sounds like you are doing the right things with cold drinks and sugar before panicking anyway x

Hi lovely I would go back and have baby monitored - even if you have to do it ten times before baby comes they honestly will not mind 🥰 Any reduction in movement needs checking out just to be on the safe side xxxx
