??? Early stages of labour???

Hi!

I am precisely 34/40 weeks pregnant with my first baby.

Over the past week I have been losing my mucas plug, I went to see my obstetrician who confirmed it certainly was the mucas plug however she said my cervix is closed at that moment in time. This was 6 days ago. I was reassured that mucas plugs can regenerate and that just because it is coming away doesn't 100% mean that labour is near (She said it's difficult to determine either way + that all there was to do is wait)

Early hours of yesterday morning I started getting slight period pains and back ache which did progress as the night went on leaving me to feel quite fidgety. This pain has continued however slightly slightly gotten stronger. It literally feels textbook of what I am used to when my period was starting prior to gestation.

I have been having increased discharge today and have also had small bits of plug come out however there not as large as they was last week which ?reassures me?

I am just generally uncomfortable however I don't want to cause panic unnecessarily.... I am trying baths and basic pain relief.... I am not oblivious to the potential of it being Braxton hicks but I'm also not unaware of potential early labour....

Any advice????

I had my first baby 5 months ago and I did not realise I was in labour until I got to hospital and was 8 cm dialated! I spent the previous day with a very heavy pressure in my pelvis, but not painful. Had hot bath and felt much better, no sign of mucus plug. Went to bed feeling much better then at 12.45 am my waters broke then it all happened at once, lost mucus plug and pressure became very intense. If your not sure then maybe call your midwife unit at the hospital and see what they advise. Good luck!

You’re not going to cause panic by speaking to your midwife, you’re seeking guidance and reassurance. Give them a call, better to check and set your mind at ease either way x

I lost bits of my mucus plus at about 32 weeks over several days. I am now 40 weeks and have been losing more this week. I didn't have the period like cramps at 32 weeks though but am getting them at the moment. Have you mentioned to your midwife about the cramping? If it gets in any way regular its definitely time to contact triage as I believe at 34 weeks they would give an injection to help baby's lungs mature in case of delivery.

My mucous plug partially came out at 38 weeks but baby was still overdue and didn't come for another two weeks. I thought I was going to come into labour but I didn't. Just had Braxton Hicks. You will soon know when you come into labour as is much worse than Braxton Hicks - but if you are not sure phone your midwife or hospital.
