I’ve been prescribed this at 17 weeks pregnant for sickness / anxiety.

Reading it can effect a baby in late pregnancy...

So why have they given me them!

Reading this: netdoctor.co.uk/medicines/b...

would suggest ‘late’ pregnancy is considered the 3rd trimester, so it’s considered safe for you take now (2nd trimester) in low dose.

If in doubt though it’s best to query it, for peace of mind if nothing else.

They know I’m 17 weeks as they got me to confirm and it was my GP. I won’t worry. I’ll try anything to stop feeling sick!!

I’m 31 weeks pregnant and still struggling with morning sickness so get where you’re coming from.

From your post you seemed unsure as to why they’d prescribe this medication to you at 17 weeks, so hopefully the link answers that

Aw no! Have they given you anything?

I’m hoping the tablets mean I can build some confidence back

I was offered something quite early on, but as I wasn’t losing weight I decided against taking anything. I was signed off work for a couple of weeks while I got used to all the changes as I was finding it quite overwhelming

Have had gastric reflux and heart burn really badly since and took something for that for a while, but it wasn’t making a massive difference so stopped taking that too.

Just taking one day at a time now.

It’s all very hard. And I didn’t think sickness would get me! I’ve only been sick once but the constant heaving and feeling sick is debilitating I’ve got one job on on Monday then I’m taking some well earned time off for a few weeks to Take these and rest!

Rest and reflexology both helped me with nausea x

I'm honestly quite surprised that you were prescribed this if you've only vomited once, as far as I'm aware this is usually reserved for cases of severe sickness (causing weight loss, dehydration, malnutrition).

Is the nausea so bad that it's making you lose weight? Honestly if it's not I would advise trying to find other ways of dealing with it (i.e. only eating cold food, getting nutrition of smoothies, eating little and often, etc). Although I'm not a doctor and I have no idea how badly this is effecting you personally, so take what I say with a pinch of salt. Only you know your body and mind. Btw I had the same as you, bad nausea and minimal vomiting, it went away around 18 weeks and I feel brilliant now at 30 weeks. Good Luck!

I would assume all medication will come with potential side effects and warnings. Although your doctor prescribes them because they believe they are safe enough and there will be minimal side effects, it's really down to you to judge whether you're happy to take that 'risk'. I was quite ill with the sickness up until 18 weeks and eventually caved in to get medication (after regular of accuputure). The potential side effects were really severe and quite frightening but fortunately I didn't get any.

I was prescribed this in both my pregnancies, for early pregnancy sickness (no vomitting) but I felt sick from when I woke up to going to sleep at night!! Only took it up to 12/13 weeks though as mine eased off after then. My 2 year old was fine, and currently 22 weeks with number 2. I can't say it helped me massively, took the edge off and phycologically felt I was doing something to help! I found rest, eating little and often and fizzy drinks helped as much. I know it's not recommended in the 3rd trimester so you should be fine. Is it actually helping? Xxx
