I had a pessary inserted last night about 11pm. No contractions so far.
It was the most painful experience of my life. I’m still in agony now. I cannot sit or move without a horrendous burning sensation down there. I asked the midwife to re examine as I thought it had come lose and she couldn’t even get inside to check because I screamed in pain. So pessary is still there. What do I do!? It’s agonising.
Ask her to check again but give you gas and air so you can tolerate being checked.
It came out in the bathroom not long ago. And the midwife this evening thinks I had a reaction to it. So it’s out now and I feel a lot better x
Just an update. I had another excruciating examination at midnight last night. They inserted a gel pessary. Irregular contractions this morning. Woke for another examination and again I’d had an awful reaction to the gel so the midwife could perform the examination properly and she explained she’s never seen anyone reacting to it so badly with the swelling and rawness of it. Talks will be going ahead regarding a c section.
I had a reaction to the pessary too. I ended up with awful thrush from it and a horrible internal rash. Ask them for an antihistamine- it will help xx

I’m so sorry I only just saw this. I ended up going home for a few days to recover and then went back in. Had my waters broken as I was at 1cm then the drip. Had her vaginally after 2 hours 😊 congratulations on your new bundle of joy xxxx
I had this last month. I was in agony after it had been inserted, severe burning and really painful to pee. Had it put in on the Monday and was in absolute agony when they attempted examination the following day. They even tried me on gas and air but I was screaming in pain as soon as they touched me. I had ivf so I'm used to lots of internal investigations and never had a problem until this pessary. Then they discovered I was having contractions too quickly but my cervix was completely closed and my baby's heart rate had increased so they removed the pessary and I had an emergency caesarean.
Oh wow. I’m contracting currently: a few every 10 mins but I’m so against being examined (I know they need to) it’s just so painful!
I let them try but the first couple of attempts was a no go then one doctor managed to do it using just 1 finger and even that was horrendous. When she said my cervix was still closed I felt so anxious, especially when they added my lg's heart rate had increased. Theycsuggwsted 3 options, walked out the room so we could think and I just said to my hubby to do the emergency c section and get her out so that I knew she was okay. Then the docs walked back and and said they were going to do it anyway. A c section is not scary so please don't feel anxious about it. It's really quick it's just the recovery that takes longer, this my first baby too but I wouldn't hesitate to have another one. I was induced as I have lupus so I'm a higher risk of preeclampsia and stillbirth, plus we have had a lot of stillbirths in our family.
Ask them to give you gas and air every time they examine you and take your time with it until you zone out. I found examinations excruciating as well and the only way I could cope was with gas and air. It will all be over soon and you'll have your little one in your arms before long! Best of luck!
Hi all just an update. I had my little girl this morning at 3:20am. She came as a vaginal delivery and I had an epidural. Apart from a swollen head. She’s all good!
