First time mum at 44 and overweight

I just found out I’m pregnant with my first child (week 7.5 right now) but I’m concerned about my weight, which sharply increased a whole stone towards the end of last year after an Achilles injury that required months of rest. I’m worried that now I’m finally able to do some physical activity, I am pregnant and not supposed to diet or exercise towards weight loss. I’m terrified of further weight gain as the pregnancy progresses and of it impacting negatively on my cardiovascular function, potentially leading to complications at a later stage. I am 5’ 7” (170cm) tall and currently 190 pounds (86kg) heavy. I haven’t had my first medical appointment yet. Can anyone offer any advice on this please? I’d really appreciate it. Thank you.

Walking, swimming, yoga, stretches. There are loads of low intensity exercises you can whilst pregnant. Enjoy the fact you're pregnant but keep a bit of gentle moving going.

Congrats!

Congratulations. If you do simple exercise not strenuous and stick to a healthy meals with snacks when required you will be ok. You may be monitored closely by midwife too so don’t get worried.

You're not that overweight. If you're worried about cardiovascular health then just cut down on or cut out cholesterol from your diet (i.e. animal products) and cut out trans fats (processed meats mainly). Lots of fruit and vegetables are great for preventing inflammation and platelet aggregation. Also try to stay active. Good Luck!
