Hi ladies,

Just a bit worried and need some words of wisdom. This is my first pregnancy and I am 38weeks apart from SPD and can't feel my fingers and itchiness the whole process has been easy thank God. I had my usual growth scan today and was told I needed to be induced and baby isn't putting on weight as they would like I couldn't even sit still for the virginal examination I feel like I have let my baby down. So told consultant to hold off induction till next week just need to get my head around the whole process and OH is away for now as well, he could come home but he is been difficult about it saying we need the money as he is a contractor no work no pay he feels we should wait until I get a date before he comes home knowing I had ask to be given that date on Tuesday but he doesn't want to come home until a day before induction what do I do ladies help !!! Is it safe to wait till next weekend to be induced when I was asked to be induced by the consultant this weekend

Iā€™ve been told I will be induced since day one! Solely due to my age and it being my first baby.

Iā€™ve decided to say no to induction as everthing is healthy, but if the health of me or the baby takes a downturn then I would accept.

If your baby isnt developing properly, sometimes they are better out than in. Youā€™re not failing them, but you must make sure they are healthy.

I donā€™t think any of us are in a position to tell you whether itā€™s safe or not for you to hold off with an induction longer than recommended by hospital.

What Iā€™d say is that they donā€™t just suggest an induction for the sake of it. Their priority is for you to have a healthy baby in your arms in a few days/weeks.

Iā€™ve had two babies already and whilst my firstborn was measuring small throughout, there were never any health concerns as he was still progressing.

Why were you given a growth scan in the first place? There mustā€™ve been previous concerns as itā€™s not standard? I, for example, had them because Iā€™ve got under active thyroids and was then measuring small as well.

Iā€™m now 37 weeks with No3 and induction has been mentioned because of reduced movement. They weigh up the risks and benefits, I was monitored at 31 and at 36 weeks. They told me from 37 weeks onwards - as you are full term - they act quicker and often get babies out as they are ā€˜fully cookedā€™, so to speak.

You are full term, you are not failing your baby. What I personally would NOT do is postpone a recommended induction because of work/money. Youā€™d pay any money in the world if things went wrong because you delayed birth due to inconvenience of your/your partnerā€™s lives.

I get that money is important, but making sure your baby is born and alive is more important. Having said that, they canā€™t be too worried just yet if they didnā€™t induce you there and then, so personally Iā€™d ask them when they want to induce, they know best. As and when you have that date thatā€™s what Iā€™d go with.

Like I said, their only concern is for you to have a healthy baby and youā€™ll never forgive yourself if you went against their advice and you ended up with an emergency, a disability or worst a stillbirth.

All the best!

Ps: Iā€™ll be induced at 39 weeks, had two full term babies with everything natural so far. Every pregnancy and every birth is different, but youā€™ve made it to full term and your baby will be fine if born now!

I keep my fingers crossed for you that things get moving soon! Once you have your little one in your arms youā€™ll forget about all the frustrating days leading up to it!

What shocking news, I am sorry that is the case. I would definitely follow the expert advise of your consultant, they have the right experience to advise whatā€™s best for your particular situation. I think even if itā€™s hard everything else comes second, first is your babyā€™s health and well-being. Good luck!šŸ€

Hi Special Uno, Gosh this is a tricky one. You don't want to give advice when it's the health of your baby and you at risk. The consultant is the one with the training and the knowledge you should go with their advice. Saying that though, I have 3 children and I had them late in life 37,39 and 41yrs. I was, and still am, fit and healthy so even though I was told for each one I could not have them at home, because of blood pressure concerns, or age concerns, position of placenta or the size of the baby is too large to have at home. The last one I was told was too big and I should elect to be induced. I declined all the advice, signed various waivers and had them comfortably at home. I'm not saying to ignore the advice of the consultant, however for me, I knew my own body, this is a natural process although terribly painful, and I felt more comfortable having them the way I wanted. It's a difficult process as it is, without not having some control for your own body, and you're wishes, without risking the child's health. Not sure that helps, go with you're instincts. xx
