Tender breasts and running during pregnancy

I'm only 8 weeks pregnant and haven't been able to run for most of that time due to seriously tender breasts. I'm really missing it, especially the impact running has on my well-being, therefore, does anyone have any tips that could help me get back to it?

Around the time of my period I used to take ibuprofen before a run to cope with tender breasts but I'm aware I can't do that now.

Hi you could try a different support fitness bra maybe or maternity bra

Or start with walking and build up to a slow run

Hi Blue107. When I was pregnant with my little boy I had exactly the same thing, it was one of my first symptoms of pregnancy from around 3 weeks. As I’m sure you know everyone is different with some symptoms in pregnancy. Some of my friends never had tender breasts throughout pregnancy, some had it the whole way through, others only had it in the first trimester. Me personally - mine seemed to stop feeling tender around 10 weeks. Yours may ease off too!! But until then / if it doesn’t, as the other poster said in their reply, maybe treat yourself to a new really supportive sports bra with extra comfy padding. Hope your sore boobies get better soon xx

Is it specifically running that you miss or exercise generally? Cross-training is a lower impact exercise that might not hurt as much for the time being but still keep up your cardiovascular fitness?

I would agree about maybe getting a more supportive bra but I know you might not want to spend loads of money on one now as it might not fit for long.

Does paracetamol help with the pain as it’s ok to take that in pregnancy? Sounds like you’re prone to that type of pain in relation to hormones if you normally get it with your period but hopefully as the hormones balance out a bit it might ease off a little xx

Thank you for the replies. I've got my fingers crossed it eases off soon.

Paracetamol eases the pain a little but not enough for me to be able to run, or even take part in other cardio based exercises, including spinning even when I'm wearing my high impact bra. I'll go to a running shop this weekend to see if there's a more suitable bra. It doesn't help that I have large breasts normally.

I did manage to complete a kettle bell routine yesterday though :-)
