Washing clothes before use

Hello, I’m deciding whether or not I need to wash the clothes I have bought in preparation for my new arrival. Do you think it is necessary? I just wondered what the consensus would be. Thanks

I didn't bother but i know plenty of people who got into the nesting spirit and washed everything

My friend didn’t but I plan on washing everything... just the thought of all

Those hands and machines on them... plus gives me something to do whilst waiting for lil man to arrive xx

Nope but some people do. What if you want to take anything back say you had a boy and not a girl and you’ve took all the tags off and washed them.

I did actually wash all the new stuff but when baby got to 3-4 months I didn’t really bother x

I didn’t bother 😊 Guess it really depends how you feel about it. I know adults who wash clothes for themselves before wearing them when new x

I have for all of mine just on a quick 15 min wash with teeny bit of non bio and bit of comfort just so they are nice and soft and smell all the same!! Up to you at end of day xxxx

Yes, I would and I did with my baby - I washed and ironed everything.

Your covered by Consumer Rights Act 2015 in response to faulty items or items not fit for purpose. Xx

Me too -washed & ironed everything. Well - I do it with all clothes I buy, just because don't like the idea of dusts of cutting and stitching process to be left on the clothes (or someone trying it on or touching them)

But it's really up to you 😉

I do and would brand new clothes can feel very rough on the skin and there’s chemicals all over new clothes I wouldn’t want that on my newborns skin I still wash all new clothes for my self and 20 month old

My little girl is 5 weeks old now and I washed and ironed absolutely everything beforehand and still do, and to be honest I probably will always continue to. I loved that it was all clean and had the lovely baby fairy smell on everything. At the end of the day it’s your choice x

I washed all the newborn things and 0-3 and then I stopped. I felt was best to be cautious incase the clothes irritated his skin.

I did hun, I washed everything on the baby clothes setting so it's 90 degrees. It gets rid of anything on them as a newborns skin is very sensitive. Also it feels great getting things ready lol x

I did. But then I generally wash my own clothes when they’re new before I wear them too. I can’t bear the “shop” smell and you don’t know who has handled them.

I only washed the newborn to 3 months stuff. Don't know if I will continue with the rest. But the thought of my little wearing nice , clean and ironed clothes comforts me. But like everyone said it's up to you xxxx

I will be washing all new clothes, mainly because I know my skin reacts to the chemicals used on new clothing and don’t want to risk anything affecting the baby’s skin. Bit of non-bio and a hot wash should do the trick

I washed everything. The gender was a surprise and so when she was born my husband bought her an outfit and wanted to see her wear it as I was still in hospital I couldn’t wash it so we put it on her. It was a mistake. It irritates her skin really badly and she cried and fussed until we took it off her. Everything gets washed first and she is 8 months now. X
