Needle stick injury

So I’m a 24 week pregnant registered nurse in a medical practice and today I was vaccinating a 3 year old and a 1 year with varicella (chicken pox).

Did the 3 year old first and then the 1 year old, when finished with the 1 year old the 3 yo cried really loud I turned and stuck myself with the needle

They are fully up to date with their vaccinations and there is no need to think that the 1yo has any blood born diseases I should be worried about. I am however worried about having live vaccine in my thumb. And how this could effect my baby.

Has anything like this happened to anyone else? Has anyone had a live vaccine when pregnant?

(All protocol was followed. Bloods done wound bled out and hands washed for at least 3 mins and rubbed with iodine ect, I opted for no bloods done on the baby as it would be unnecessary and traumatising)

I would phone the vaccine manufacturer. I had an issue with anaesthetic gas leak on the day I lost one of my babys so called to see if was link (more for future protection and I just needed to know) and the drug company were brilliant, They organised an independent consultant anaesthetist to call me and discuss (not a link and found out weeks later baby turned out to have turners and was why we lost her, so they were right) You are not the first or the last and they are the most likely to have the data on this or know someone who can find things out.

Your baby is pretty safe. Women can get the active kind of vaccinations whilst pregnant for travelling so I'm sure that whatever vaccination residue was left on the needle when you caught your thumb would be no cause for concern.
