Growth scans

Hello, I am 29+2 weeks pregnant with a very much wanted ivf baby. We ended up in hospital for the second time yesterday with reduced fetal movements and a growth scan has shown that baby’s growth has dropped to the 10th centile. We are having a repeat scan to check the placenta next week and another the following week to check baby’s growth. They’ve said not to worry but it’s hard not to panic that something is wrong with baby. Has anyone else been in this situation? xx

It hasn't happened to me personally but it has happened to a close friend of mine. They kept a close eye on the baby with weekly scans and then induced at 37 weeks baby was 5pound but she's doing very well x

Thank you, that’s really reassuring xx

Hi Hun, I had a growth scan at 28 weeks that was fine then one at 32 weeks which showed baby's growth had dropped to the 10th centile. It did worry me! I had a Doppler scan the next week & the placenta & fluid around the baby were both fine. His growth had picked up again at 34 weeks & the consultant said baby's sometimes do this or it could be a error by the sonographer. Had another growth scan on Tuesday where the sonographer said his head measured 36 weeks but his belly & legs didn't. She went off to put it in the computer & when it was plotted on the growth chart he has grown fine. He is just a small baby. They estimate him to weigh 5lb 4 oz at 36 +1. Nearly every baby in my family weighs 6lb something at birth so that's about right for me. I know it's bloody difficult but please try to keep calm til the next scan. I was thinking all kinds of horrible things necessarily. X

Thank you, that’s reassuring. Our baby is estimated to weigh 2lb 2oz at the moment (29+2). These little ivf babes are a worry aren’t they?! I don’t think I’ll stop worrying until baby is safely here. I think it’s the combination of reduced movements and baby’s growth dropping that’s scaring me, am trying to stay off google! I only weighed 6lb 3oz when I was born and am quite petite so I hope baby is just taking after me xxx

I've found pregnancy really difficult to be honest. Every little thing has me worried. Now I'm worrying about him not breathing at birth & things like that. I wish I had considered how hard I would find it all & maybe got counselling beforehand. Baby could well just take after you Hun. I'm quite petite too & didn't expect to have a big baby but when they said he hadn't grown much it really scared me. Let us know how you get on at the next scan & look after yourself until then. 😘 x

I know exactly what you mean, I was the same until we finally got to our 20 week scan and had been really enjoying pregnancy since then until this latest blip! You take care too. Lots of love xxx

Thank you Kate, that’s really reassuring. I’ve been reading lots of stories like this where they’ve got it wrong so I’m hoping that’s what’s happened with us! Xxx
