Gestational Acne :(

PineappleCactus17 profile image

I’m 15 weeks 5 days and so so happy to be pregnant. I haven’t felt too bad so far, nausea and sick a few times and obviously feeling very tired, but the worst symptom has got to be how bad my skin has got. I never had the best skin, hormonal breakouts etc, but it’s definitely got worst since being pregnant. It’s on my shoulders, chest and back which it never was before and it just doesn’t seem to be going away :( I hoped once I was in the second trimester it would ease up but it doesn’t seem to be yet. Is anybody else suffering with this or have any advise on how to help? It’s really getting me down, I want the pregnancy glow!!

I use acnecide (benzoyl peroxide) I use a gel on my face, I got mine on prescription from a nurse although it’s only about £10 anyway for a tube from boots etc.

I think I might mention it at my next midwife appointment, hopefully they might prescribe it, thank you 😊

Argh, I'm so sorry to hear you're suffering with acne. I had exactly the same (face, shoulders, legs, arms, chest and back). Not being able to use retinol-based treatments was tricky at first but I did find some products that helped:

1) Benzoyl peroxide (free on prescription when you're preggo) - be careful using this on your chest as it gave me some irritation

2) I used this face mask one per week: asos.com/starskin/starskin-...

3) I covered my spots with these spot dots to prevent infection and swelling: yesstyle.com/en/tcuc.GBP/in...

4) This is a great foundation: lookfantastic.com/vichy-der...

5) I exfoliated every day with lookfantastic.com/nip-fab-g... or made my own soulfullymade.com/homemade-...

I'm now 29 weeks pregnant and my skin is great - hope it passes for you as well.

Hi Clare,

This is AMAZING! Thank you so much for all the suggestions, I really appreciate it :) I will definitely ask about the benzoyl peroxide when I see the midwife and I’ll check out all the other things too. I’m glad to hear your skin has cleared up, fingers crossed mine will too!

Best of luck with your little one.
