Keep being told my bump is huge!

Hello everyone

First time posting on this forum. I am 23+5 weeks with my first baby (but technically 4th pregnancy). My bump is pretty big. I am only 5 feet tall with a short torso, so keep telling myself there’s nowhere else for it all to go but out. But with all the comments, it’s making me nervous for the rest of the pregnancy as to how big (if ‘too’ big) I’m going to get, and also whether everything is okay.

Any words of advice? Thank you

I think it’s a lovely bump and you should be proud to show it off! I really didn’t like people commenting on the size of mine! x

Oh don’t get me wrong I am! And I don’t think they are being unkind when they say this, I think they too are so happy to see it but they make it known they think it’s big for dates. Even today at midwife (not my usual one, I was in for an impromptu BP check) she said how pronounced it was and asked when my next scan was 😂 She didn’t say anything else and I should have asked “why, are you concerned I’m too big” but was a bit taken aback! Hope you’re good hon, lovely to hear from you xx

It’s a lovely bump ignore the people. They all like to say how big peoples bumps are for some reason. As long as it’s measuring fine I wouldn’t worry xx

Try not to worry about it. I agree, it looks like a nice neat bump. I was similar in that I’m only small so I think it made my bump look bigger compared with taller people. Your midwife will measure your bump later on in the pregnancy and if you measure big, they can monitor you to make sure you don’t have too excess fluid or diabetes or anything. Even this can be quite inaccurate and measuring a bit bigger isn’t usually anything to worry about.

People can be so rude without meaning to be I think. People used to tell me I was “massive” and other similar things which would never be appropriate normally! For what it’s worth, despite what those people said, I only actually gained just over a stone, it was all bump and I’d lost it all by 3 weeks after baby arrived! 😂 xx

I’ve got the gestational diabetes test in a couple weeks anyway due to risk factors, so won’t be surprised if something comes of that! Thanks for responding and reassuring xx

No worries. I got checked for diabetes too at about 31 weeks as baby was measuring on the large side (bump measurements and scan, and I knew my dates cos it was IVF). Everything was fine, no diabetes and he was born on his due date at 8lb5oz so not enormous. He’s a tall baby though so maybe that was relevant.

Hope all goes well for you 😊 x

Glad all was well 😍 Hope your son is thriving 💙

See I have a feeling mine is long - we used a donor egg and the donor is 5 feet 8, so quite tall in comparison to me, and hubby is same height, so every possibility baby will be long

Thanks again. xx

I'm the same at 22 weeks my bump is not the 'usual' size. Everyone comments on how big I am and it can be a bit frustrating. I'm only short and carrying a girl this time so I just think she is all front. I worry about how big I will get but I guess will just have to wait and see. Good luck and be proud of baby bump xx

Thank you. I do worry about size the rest of the pregnancy but I can’t do anything about it - and whilst I have a good appetite am generally eating a healthy balanced diet - so what will be will be 😃.

I am indeed very proud of it, it took us a long time to get here so won’t let anyone (intended or otherwise) cast a shadow xx

Exactly as soon as baby arrives you will miss the bump aswel. Ours is a rainbow baby and took along time and a lot of heartbreak so I'm embracing all of it. As long as they healthy that's all that matters. Politely ignore the comments, I do lol x

Rainbow baby here too, can’t wait to meet he/she and husband keeps telling me I will miss my bump 😂. That’s fab you’re having a girl, we haven’t found out although I am still tempted!

Best of luck and thanks for your responses xx

My bump looked massive in comparison to everyone else's at around that point and then even though I measured correct for dates all the way along everyone else's bump seemed to catch up later. By the end I didn't look any bigger than anyone else really. I think it just depends when you start to show and where they are sitting. Mine was very out the front which looked big but meant my stomach never really got squished and I could keep eating fine. Your bump looks great!

Thank you glad to know I’m not the only one! Sometimes I agree mine does look big then other times I think meh it’s fine. Either way I am proud of it! x

Don't listen to them! No bump is the same. We all carry differently. Your baby might just be in a funny position. I was told I had a "tidy bump". Yeah right. I lost my feet, and the flab that is leftover now is anything but tidy!!!

Just enjoy the wonderful thing happening inside of you. It's funny, I knew that bump would one day be a baby, but I honestly grieved for that tiny thing growing inside me even when I was holding my gorgeous newborn. Carrying your baby is a connection like no other so just enjoy it :)

Yes I do think I’ll miss my bump - something magical knowing that little life growing inside you is right there and so close to your heart 💜

Thank you x

I got told the opposite, that my bump was really small and that made me panic as our previous poorly baby measured small. I spoke to my Mum who reassured me that she didn't ever have huge bumps (we are a tall family and I am 6 foot tall). I was still glad for the next scan which confirmed she was bang on the right size. I think your bump looks wonderful. Enjoy it 😘xx

I definitely agree height makes a difference as a taller body has more space for everything to spread out 😊

Hope you’re well and things are all good xx

Darling congrats on your pregnancy and as everyone says enjoy that lovely bump.

I also had a huge bump ppl kept asking me if I was having twins and/or even triplets 😂 and I was NO I’m having only one and kept saying if I was sure (from the very beginning.... I started showing way before the 3 months mark.) I also gain almost half of my weight 4.6 stones which was gone after a couple of weeks (thanks God) hubby was worried that I was going to keep the size 😂

Also had the checks earlier for diabetes and everything was ok.

I know it’s hard darling but try to relax and enjoy this precious time.

Thank you so much Jay2017. I won’t let them get to me. My baby’s wellbeing it’s what’s most important so as long as the scans show they’re growing fine, safe and well then I don’t care what size I become! x

Looks lovely to me. I've been told a few times that I look quite big, but I was measured on Tuesday and was measuring bang on 26 weeks (26+2 at the time). Baby seemed to be of average size too. I find that my bump feels and looks bigger at the end of the day. I love my bump, and I'm glad it's prominent 😁 I hope everything is going well xx

I’ve not been measured yet but guess that starts in the next few weeks. Even the midwives have passed comment! Not in a cheeky way they just sound surprised. 😂

Thanks JoJo hope you’re well too xx

Yes, at your next midwife appointment. Haha! Well you look great. Also love your cardigan - I'm a big fan of mustard! Xx

That’s the spirit.

Eat healthy and spoil yourself from time to time, remember that whatever you eat your baby is eating too...... I ate lots of fruits and veg during my pregnancy and luckily I don’t have any stretch marks considering I looked like a ballon towards the end. Someone told me that pineapple and grapefruit were good so I had them everyday plus other ones. Also I used lots of creams so I guess it was thanks to the combination of the two.

So take care of your skin cause your bump will get bigger and you need to pumper it 😆

Ah people with their OPINIONS... Just ignore everyone. I'm 19+5 and keep getting told how tiny I am, it's my first baby but second pregnancy (lost one at 6 weeks). People just love giving their opinions in everything, I think your bump looks beautiful xxx

People said the same to me and my bump was over the 95th percentile line for most of my pregnancy which did worry me that baby would be huge, but when he arrived (2weeks overdue) he was a very normal 8lb 8oz. Don't worry about it. On a smaller body the bump does look bigger, and some of it may just be extra fluid too. Good luck!

Everyone carries differently. With my daughter, I just carried round and a lot went on my hips (unfortunately lol). With my son, I was all upfront. I swear my tummy entered a room 2 hours before the rest of me. My daughter is now nearly 28 weeks and she is quite big so don’t worry, everything is fine xx

WeeMrsH profile image
WeeMrsH in reply to Gillyc1

Aw thanks Gilly. It does seem to be all upfront so probably making it seem bigger! Hope your daughter is doing well xx

Yeah she ya doing great. On her last scan at 20 weeks her placenta was at the bottom so we are just hoping it’s moved or it’s a c section. Only 12 weeks or so until we meet Jack. Do you know what you are having xxx

WeeMrsH in reply to Gillyc1

20th Jan. I feel like your daughter was a good bit further in her pregnancy than me but you say she’s 28 weeks? I am 24. Good luck to her for the next scan, hope that placenta has shifted xx
