Avoiding telling people about pregnancy!

Hello,

I just found out that I’m pregnant. I am exhausted and feel sick 24/7. We don’t want to mention to anyone about the pregnancy until 12 weeks. However, over the next few weeks, we have plans to visit (what feels like) our entire extended family! We can’t cancel.

Any good ideas/ excuses for not feeling great, not eating and drinking as usual, throwing up often?

Suggestions on a postcard!

Thanks, x

I know how your feeling, since we found out 5 weeks ago now 9 weeks pregnant, we have had quite a few things go on, family visiting, meals out, family days out, it is difficult as you have to make out you will have a drink then quickly pass the drink to partner when no one looking and I’m extremely bloated, which makes me look like I got a bump already, so tying to find decent clothes to cover bump, but you don’t want it too look obvious.

Just tell them you haven't been feeling so well and that you've made decision not to drink till you feel better. It's none of their business if you drink or not regardless of them being family

If your happy to lie... just say you've got a stomach infection and you're on antibiotics which react with alcohol.

Or reflux which is worse if you eat too much or drink.

I used backache which put me on sting painkillers making me feel sick as my excuse ;) this covered me carrying anything to heavy, feeling tired and sick and drinking alcohol. It’s only short term ;) congratulations x

Congratulations! Remember to put yourself first. The first trimester is tough. If you feel you need to cancel, then do. Don't put yourself under pressure when you're feeling exhausted and sick. Your family will understand when you tell them the real reason. If you want to go ahead with your plans, just use the tummy upset / virus excuse - this should account for sickness, no drinking and tiredness! Have fun and look after yourself x
