Well I had a 21 day blood test to check progesterone levels. Doctor rang and said she’s referring us to the fertility clinic as I’m not ovulating as I should. I must sometime as I did get pregnant but miscarried. What tests do they do? Has anyone been? Experiences I’d like to know. Ta

Hi, I have never ovulated regularly, but have one daughter, 2 miscarriages and am currently pregnant. We have been trying to concieve for the better part of 9 years. I only seem to ovulate 2 or 3 times a year. I found acupuncture really helped me ovulate and concieve.

Were you given any medication or treatments?

I have 2 children already from my previous marriage but I’ve been trying with my new partner and miscarried at 12 weeks in Nov.

I had the usual hormone tests, amh test to measure follicular reserve, i had a hycosy scan to check if fallopian tubes were blocked (they werent). I found my thyroid was not right. Although technically tsh can be anything up to 4.2 and considered normal in the uk, there is evidence that it needs to be around 2 to get pregnant and stay pregnant. I was 3.9, so considered normal for health, but not for fertility, but i pushed for medication to help. I was also prescribed clomid, but didnt end up taking it as found out i was pregnant. I also had been taking a really high vitamin d supplement which i think also helped.

So you naturally got pregnant, that was good. I hope we can my partner doesn’t have any kids and I love to have one with him.

Your partner will need his semen checked and you will need some other bloods to check other hormones. Also could do swabs. They might try clomid. I wasn’t offered this as I was ovulating even though I had PCOS so we had to go straight for IVF x

Yeah the doctor said he’ll have to have tests too, I’m 38 with kids don’t think I would get IVF. Hopefully something will work.

We were referred to the fertility team as I was the same and not ovulating. I had to have a scan to see if I had eggs being released and whether I had an egg supply. I was diagnosed with PCOS and sent for further bloods etc. I was given medication to try and force my body into a natural cycle and egg release. My husband also had to have a sperm count test.

We were then prescribed clomid and luckily conceived. However in our area you are only eligible on the NHS if neither of you have children. Not sure if this is the case everywhere. If the clomid didn’t work we had the option of adding in other medication and then 1 round of IVF if all other options exhausted.

Thank you for your reply, wonder if it makes a difference if my partner has no children for getting clomid, I’m not sure if id go the IVF route.

In general even if either one of you has children you would not get ivf on the NHS. But see what they offer first...

did you gp not do a sperm test on your partner? That's pretty essential as it takes two to tango!!

They haven’t yet just did bloods to check progesterone as I’d mentioned I don’t get a positive lh test, tbh she didn’t want to do anything said 2 years of trying even tho I’m 38 said it was normal and because I’ve had children and a miscarriage I should be fine and to come back in sept if I hadn’t got pregnant.

Here in Oxford we weren’t eligible for any form of help if one of you had children. A friend paid privately as her fiancé already had a child, they unfortunately split and with her now husband they are again not eligible because she had received fertility treatment with an ex. It seems very complicated the system!!!

Ok I’ll just have to see what the tests say and what they can offer.
