First Pregnancy Nerves

Hi everyone

My partner and I decided to try for a baby a few months ago and this month we found out she’s pregnant which is fantastic news!!

She’s only 6 weeks so it’s extremely early stages and we’re both new to this so we’re constantly researching everything!

The problem is I am quite a relaxed guy and I’m just excited for the future and can’t wait to go through this experience, however, my partner is the complete opposite. She is so paranoid and worried that something will happen and every book she picks up or website she looks at is a constant reminder of the risks in early pregnancy. She ends up worrying constantly and can’t relax and enjoy what she’s going through.

Does anyone have any advice for a new dad to be that can help me reassure her or is there anything I can do for her?

Thanks!

Rich

It’s completely normal. My husband who is so laid back about everything was really anxious when we found out we were having a baby. Is it an option for you to pay for a private scan? We had one at 7 weeks and once we saw the heartbeat it definitely helped

Yeah I have looked into that, luckily there’s a clinic only a 5 minute drive away from us that offer early reassurance scans between 6-8 weeks but they say to go at either 7 or 8 weeks because the heart beat will be stronger!

So we’ll definitely book up that for next week as I think you’re right, that will put her mind at rest!

It's completely normal to worry. We lost 2 babies so when we became pregnant with our rainbow boy (we're now 37 weeks pregnant). We were constantly on edge that we decided to have an early scan. It was such a relief to us! Most places won't scan until 8 weeks so if you book think it will help then I'd book it and give you both something to look forward to.

Maybe try keeping busy and go on trips out for the day or something :). Definitely recommend having an early scan though! Wishing you both all the best :)!

It's normal to be nervous no matter what. I'm on my 4th pregnancy but will be my 3rd child as i had a miscarriage on pregnancy number two. I'm still nervous this time I'm about 9 and a half weeks pregnant and waiting for my first scan. It's nerve wracking. I had an early scan by this point with my youngest as I had hypermesis gravadium aka severe morning sickness that landed me in hospital 3 times in space of 3 weeks over night each time. So they sent me for an early scan to rule out twins due to super high hormone levels. So I was reassured by this point with my rainbow baby. He's now 13 month and perfectly healthy. Best thing is to try keep her off the internet as it always points you to the worst things.

As sad as it is, it's likely that should the worst happen at this early stage it was for a reason. I naturally miscarried because my body knew baby wasn't developing properly. Early miscarriages generally are unavoidable if they happen. Best thing to do is not stress out and relax.

I’m exactly the same. I’m 19 weeks and and on Tuesday I scared myself that I hadn’t felt baby move for a few days so went to hospital heard the heart beat and all’s fine. It’s so normal and every woman should follow her instincts but she’ll calm down and start to enjoy her pregnancy. Well done for being so supportive!

Thank you for all the replies everyone! We’ve just booked our first ‘reassurance scan’ for 2 weeks time so she’ll be 8 weeks by then. I think even the thought of booking it made her feel a bit better but I’ll keep everyone updated on what happens!
