Hay fever Medication

Hi all just wondering if there are any hay fever sufferers out there? I get it quite bad from around April so I’m thinking about medication now. I’ve read that there isn’t much you can take that’s safe. Does anyone have an experience of this?

You need to talk to your GP about what they recommend. It is unethical to do clinical trials of drugs on pregnant women, so there is no evidence of what is 'safe' and what isn't, with the exceptions of paracetamol and amoxicillin which were tested before they thought about ethics (according to my GP). I was given a generic brand of Piriton for a rash I had when I was pregnant. I didn't suffer badly with hay fever before having children, so can't comment specifically on what you can and can't have.

Your GP can look at the adverse effects having hay fever will have on you (and baby) and weigh up the benefitd and possible adverse effects medication could have on your baby and then between you, you can decide what you want to do.

Also the body does weird stuff when you are pregnant and hormones alter your body's reactions to things. I've had monthly migraines since I was 18 years old and yet when I was pregnant I had only one and I took paracetamol and that was enough, while a friend who never gets migraines had really bad ones all pregnancy. So you might find that your body reacts differently this year.

Thanks Winnie258 I went to see my GP and he told me not to take anything. Fingers crossed I don’t get symptoms too bad I usually really struggle. Last year I went away for a few days and forgot my hayfever tablets and my eyes swelled up and I struggled breathing. It gets pretty severe for me.
