Nursing bras

I’m looking for some advice as to when to invest in some nursing bras? My body will change (again!) after my baby arrives so should I get a couple now or wait a bit longer until afterwards.

I did measure myself about a month ago and ordered some nursing bras online but when they arrived, they were far too big! So, I’m definitely best to try them in store before I purchase.

I’m getting to the fed up stage as I’m aching quite a bit now, can’t get comfy and sleep is a little sporadic - I’m 38 weeks tomorrow and feel that I should head to M&S to get measured and purchase at least 2 this week as I’m not keen on doing anymore shopping after this week.

Appreciate any advice and your experience.

Mothercare or John Lewis for me were the best nursing bras (and nursing vests which I recommend in this weather!). Both offer a specialised measuring service that takes into account that you will get bigger when baby is here so you can buy them now. I’m not sure on M&S as I didn’t buy their bras so can’t comment. I’m 37 weeks with my second and fed up too! Hope you get to meet little one soon! X

Thanks, I didn’t think of either of those. I may try Mothercare first as there is a branch close to me and see what they have to offer.

I’ve only increased by 1 back size and 1 cup size so wasn’t sure if I’d get much bigger as I wasn’t terribly big before.

Yes, I’m ready to meet my little one now although pretty apprehensive about giving birth - it’s a scary but very exciting time ahead. Good luck and all the very best to you too!

I don't think they're worth it, conveniently designed soft bras do the trick and they're a fraction of the price, peacocks do good designs for getting your boob out when you need to

I totally understand where you are coming from - they are very expensive! I’m sure there is a Peacock’s local to me so will be sure to have a look - thanks!

I was lucky I got 2 nursing bras for 5 quid from mothercare, they were on sale 😅

That’s great although I doubt I’d be that lucky

I used to think that but OMG THE clip on proper nursing bras is so handy. Id happily pay extra for nursing bras.

I’m only 26 weeks and have several already! But that’s partly because I find they are quite comfy as maternity bras and I’m hoping to get the extra use out of them once I’ve had baby. I got measured in Debenhams and tried a few there to check the sizing then bought some from New Look online (they’re non wired bra-lets) and also JoJo Maman Bebe as they were all cheaper than Debenhams. The ones in JoJo are really stretchy and have many hooks and eyes to suit size. So I’m hoping they will all last me. I’ve gone up two cup sizes already but there’s room in all of the ones I’ve bought in case I get bigger again and I think they would look and fit alright if I shrunk slightly too. I’ve been measured in M&S previously for standard bras and they were spot on so can recommend their sizing service too xx

That’s great to hear - thanks!

I had bought some earlier from La Redoute a month or 2 ago. They were soft bralet style too but I was very disappointed with the sizing. I purchased some regular moulded/under wired bras the same size from Matalan and I’ve been using these continuously. I have found them to be really comfy.

I really think I need to try them on in store so will try that tomorrow or Friday and if I need more later, I can order online from the places that you have suggested - thank you!

Thanks ladies. I popped into Mothercare today and bought 2 nursing bras. They’ve got 20% off Clothing so that was a bonus! It was a good experience so appreciate the advice. Will head back there after my little one makes an appearance (whenever I have the energy!) to get re-fitted as I believe my bust will change again as I’m planning to breast feed. Many thanks.
