Help!

I’ve woken up yesterday with the most dreadful cold, which made me have about three hours sleep last night!! I am exhausted, 23 weeks pregnant and I’ve got additional cold aches and pains on top of the pregnancy ones. Not being able to breath and having a blocked nose!! Please any hints and tips to get this cold passed! (I’ve had the flu jab)

I'm afraid nothing can cure a cold. Stick to paracetamol, things like lemon with honey and hot water. I wouldn't buy any otc before checking with a pharmacist as cold remedies have lots of added stuff that is contraindicated in pregnancy.

The best cure is just to rest, drink plenty of fluids and try and make up some sleep today, even if it's just short naps. Take paracetamol every 4 hours if you need it. Otherwise, it's rotten but there's not much you can do. Can you use stuff like olbas oil when you're pregnant? Also, putting your head over a bowl of warm water and covering with a towel will help reduce the congestion.

I’m similar. I’m 36 weeks and awoke with a stinking head cold today. I’ve been consuming oranges to keep my vitamin c levels up and a box of tissues close by. Like others have stated, keep your fluid intake high, steam your head (add some Vics vapour rub to the water) and before bed rub some vics on chest and back if required and a dab of it under each nostril - it’ll help to keep your airways open during the night so you don’t breath through your mouth and keep waking with a sore/dry throat. You can take paracetamol but I’m staying away from it. Unfortunately, we are just going to have to work through it. I had done well staying away from it until now. Take care and rest as much as possible.

Hi, have you just had the flu jab? I had mine and felt awful for 2 days after with fully blown flu symptoms but it then passed as quickly as it arrived. If its a cold then seek advice on what you can take from the midwife/pharmacist. Good luck and hope you feel better soon xx

Hi, plenty of water, paracetamol and sleep should help, If you don’t think it’s getting any better I would go see your gp as I had this 2 weeks ago and it’s turned into pneumonia x
