Equipment

Hi everyone,

I’m just trying to get organized by making a list of things I need to get for baby, I really don’t know where to start. Like how many vests do I need to get, baby-grows, bibs blankets, I know it sounds stupid but I just don’t know.

I have my list from the hospital for my bag, I’ve gotten obvious things like pram, car seat and cot, it’s just the little things I’m worried about forgetting.

Any help would be much appreciated 😊

I was stressing about the same thing and now I think I’ve over bought lol. I bought a big lot of stuff off Facebook and then I bought fresh stuff as well for hospital and just after so I’ve got tons of baby grows. I’ve bought about 10 bibs, some muslin cloths as well and 2 blankets for the Moses basket with 2 sheets (on offer at Mothercare) and the same pack but for the cot. Also got a couple more blankets for the pram.

Think there are lists of stuff to get on Mothercare, Emma’s diary etc which can be handy xx

These might help

As long as you have the essentials you can buy things as you go once baby is born. Especially as you won’t know their weight yet. I had a 7.5lb and 10lb clothes available just in case!

I hope that helps! X

Hi, I remember been so worried about not having enough clothes. We were told not to buy much as loads will be given

Sorry posted but wasn't complete. We were told that we would get loads of clothes as presents. This is true.. however a lot of the clothes given are lovely but not practical. You need a lot of vests and Baby grows expecially for the first 3 months. It also depends on your washing suitation. If you buy fewer you need to wash more often...this sounds obvious but you don't want to be stuck. I found initially that there were days when you might have to fully change 3 or 4 times in 24hrs and other times you might now change their clothes in 3 days. Vests and Baby grows are very cheap. I would get at least 5 newborn baby grows and 8vests. Then I would get 1 month 5 baby grows and 10 vests. The baby can always were clothes for a 1 month old but they will be quiet big (depending on babies size)It does depend on your washing suitation also. Have enough newborn stuff and buy more of the next size up. Don't forget that you need to wash everything before hand. You need sheets and also 1 spare for pram, crib, cot and blankets. Our baby never got sick. Other babies get sick a lot. A handy tip we got was to put a large muslin cloth under their head and wrap the edges around the side of the mattress in crib or cot. That way you just whip up the muslin cloth and don't need a fully bed change. We got loads of muslin cloths and found these great expecially for breastfeeding The larger the better. Also try get soft ones. We got loads of blankets for presents. Butil u need 2 blankets. You can move these from place to place. You need 2 soft towels just for the baby. We got special baby towels with a hood. Personally I found it a waste as it doesn't make any different. But the towels need to be soft. You yourself need a lot of pyjamas tops. I was not prepared for how much you sweat afterwards. Maybe that's just me. But you need a lot of tops & breastpads. If u are planning on breastfeeding then you need lanolin and also multimam. Also if u are planning on bf then read up as much as possible before hand on latch, positioning, growth spurts. Look at youtube clips. A good book is the womanly art of breastfeeding. Go to support groups before hand. If you are bottle feeding then you need a steraliser and bottles.

I hope this has been some help😊

Don't worry about buying too much! As long as you have a few bodysuits and sleepers, and hat and gloves and blanket you'll be fine. More important is the car seat as you can't leave hospital without and make sure you have a cot/Moses basket. And of course nappies/wipes/cotton wool/nappy cream and milk/bottles/steriliser if you bottle feeding.

Most other things you can buy as you go along if you forget!!

Def don't bother with any toys or anything like that tonstart off with, people do give you loads and they grow out of clothes very quickly so don't over buy!

However if you want to get everything before baby gets home you can Google baby sites/baby hospital list.

It will be fine!

Think people have covered all the bits. I've also been advised to buy lots of maternity pads as you bleed a lot after the birth for several weeks but also for when your waters break.

My friend, a mum of 5, said to bulk buy nappies and wipes because you will get through so many.

I've also bought cardigans as it's still pretty cold but I'm planning on just having the baby is baby grows for first few months so didn't get any other outfits really.

Don't buy too many size one nappies tho as they grow out v quick

Good point! I worked on the basis that baby may need changing 10 times a day (!!! That's what I've been told) and got a weeks worth in the newborn size. Then a few days worth in next size. It's so hard to know!!

10 times is fairly realistical to start off with... i was changing nappy with most feeds which starts off at 2-3 hours, sometimes less. Although first 48 hours baby might pee/poo a bit less if breastfed as milk wouldn't have come in yet.

I buy the Aldi nappies which are good and a fraction of the pampers price, and that way I don't need lots of space to nappy stash (especially since I have two in nappies!) . leak rate is about the same with both brands !

You're the 3rd person to recommend Aldi nappies so I'll be switching to those once I've used up my stash! I just realised I also got a free pampers pack (22 size 1) so that'll be a couple of days eh 😂
