Hi everyone 🤗 I’m new here. I’ve been having a look at some of your posts for about a month now - and I just found out yesterday that I’m prgenant! 5 weeks to the day and I just can’t believe it.

Everybody tells you it will take 6 months to get contraceptives out of your system... well I stopped my pill 5 weeks and two days ago and boom!! I’m actually laid up with a badly injured coccyx at the moment- I very much didn’t expect it- but I’ve told my partner and immediate family- been to the GP and done two more tests this morning just to pinch myself. It won’t sink in...!

As you can tell I’m a first time mother- and first time at trying! I always thought I might have a problem as I have chronic health struggles; apparently not. I’m just concerned as I have ME/fibromyalgia and hypermobility syndrome and take some medications- I need to reduce off them quick now. The female GP was really not very helpful or reassuring but I’ve calledbtge midwives dept now.

Did everybody get this totally weird feeling in their belly? It’s like... something I can’t describe. Bloated but kind of tingly, with a feeling of pressure. It’s so strange! I just thought it was my hormones being all over after coming off the pill and that I was about to get my period- albeit late. But it really is different...

I’ve also been taking Co-codamol recently after my bad coccyx injury, I’ve been in agony- I haven’t taken any since I found out yesterday and won’t any more, I’ll just have to grit my teeth.

I guess I just wanted to share this with you all and ask for some support and advice and just chat from some experienced and similar minded women. I’m 27 and a half now; and unfortunately my family is full of men ( without kids- my older brothers aren’t looking likely to) - and I lost my beloved Mother to Motor Neurone Disease (ALS) 2.5 years ago. This is so bittersweet because I miss her terribly and need her advice and love now more than ever. She would have adored being a grandmother.

It won’t sink in anyway... and I don’t know what to do as my first steps! I’m already taking a comprehensive prenatal vitamin with folic acid and have referred myself to the midwives. What do I do know?!? I’m still of work and just completely happy but shocked! My partner travels quite a lot for work and is already really stressed but is over the moon he says.

Hope you are all well. Thank you in advance.

Congratulations to you first of all on your beautiful news!! It’s good you have stopped taking the co codamol and I know you can take paracetamol if in pain but only paracetamol! If you like caffeine to cut right down on that . I’m sorry to hear your mum isn’t around but she will always be watching over you both ! Good luck for the rest of your pregnancy xx

Congratulations :)

I'm 18 weeks pregnant and suffer with fibromyalgia also. The minute I found out I was pregnant I stopped taking all my medication; it was quite hard but I felt it was best for baby.

The best advice I can give is a change in diet and gentle regular exercise, especially swimming. I use a hot water bottle for pain (and I suffer with been really cold all the time too so it helps); paracetamol when its really bad.

Diet wise I don't eat anything processed at all. Lots of oily fish (great for joints), turkey (good for depression), tuns of fresh veg, fruit and salad, natural yogurt (keep your gut flora balanced - massive links between this and the disease and depression). Its amazing that it does all really help.

If you suffer from insomnia (like most fibro suffers do) then you will probably find you don't have much of a problem sleeping, first time in years I'm sleeping 9-10 hours a night, its awesome lol.

I have also started to practice meditation for the pain, and I'm big into the idea of hypnobirthing too; I've ordered lots of literature on it and I'm starting the classes in Jan. I am about to start antenatal yoga in the new year too.

If you want any more help or a chat then feel free to message me; my partner is a registered nutritionist and a personal trainer and doing a masters linked to diet (probiotics mostly) and disease - He started with fibromyalgia studies to help me :)
