Planning on having a baby

I currently live outside the country. However, I plan to have my baby in the UK. As a citizen, can I still have my baby under the NHS and what are the cost implications?

If you don't live In the U.K. You are not entitled to free NHS care ... being a citizen doesn't entitle you it's being a resident that does. So it depends when you're planning to come back and leave etc.

If you have baby privately you'd have to check costs with individual hospitals.

Not sure. There’s a large sign in the hospital stating that even if you have various situations you may not be entitled to free care on the nhs. You might need to google it with your specific circumstances. I’m sure it will be on the nhs website somewhere.

You need to have a UK address and a UK passport to be entitled to NHS care now. I went in for my 20 week scan and they almost turned me away because I didn’t have my passport with me. I plead ingnorance and they let me off!

Hi.

UK nationals, who have been living/working abroad, may have to prove their ordinary residence. If you have emigrated, you are likely to be charged for NHS care on visits to the UK but you are not chargeable if you can show that you are still ordinarily resident here.

Hope this helps
