Home remedies for cold and cough

Anyone aware of any home remedies for coughs and colds? My LO is just over 6 months now and he has this severe runny nose and mucus cough for the past 2 weeks. We gave him Calpol for 3 days but it didn’t do any good. Then took him to GP and they said we just have to be patient as their immune systems aren’t strong but now it’s been over two weeks and there has been no improvement. Once he starts coughing he carries on for at least a whole minute and gets exhausted. Is this normal for babies to have cold and cough for so long? Don’t know what to do.

Anyone has any home remedies to treat the condition? Thanksxxx

Viral infections can easily last up to three weeks and honestly not much works for them. Calpol will only work if they have a temperature or they are in pain. It's not going to make the cold go away. You can use saline drops for his nose or something like Vicks for symptom relief but this won't cure the cold either. It's just the time of year for this sort of thing.
