Hi

Does anyone know which digestive enzyme products are safe in pregnancy.

Hi.

I won't be able to answer your question but I would like to know if you have any medical condition why you are taking these. If So, your gp should be able to advise you.

If you are taking any medication and supplements (except pregnancy vitamins) during pregnancy, you should discus this with your midwife or doctor. Just to be on the safe side.

Hi

I have IBS and recent tests show a candida overgrowth. Digestive enzymes currently help. I'm not currently pregnant but trying for my second - didn't have IBS issues the first time round. I'm due to see a nutritional therapist so look over recent results. My experience with GP is they don't know a lot about IBS and don't tend to advise on supplements just medicines. However will ask the question should I become pregnant - just looking to see if anyone had experienced this. Thanks x

Already taking probiotics too x

Low fat goat's and sheep's yoghurt.

Oregano on your salads and meats. On the sauces add it at the end as it gets bitter when overcooked.

Cut out all starches and carbs that are easy to absorb like potatoes, white rice, white bread, white flour, white pasta (Sainsbury's do a version with added fibre) biscuits, cakes, sugar, sweets, pickles, chutneys, yeast products, ready bought sauces and dressings, drinks (fizzy, juices, beer and wine) other than water with a drop of fresh lemon, STARVE THE CANDIDA.

If you want fruit eat it whole or juice carrots, uncooked beetroot, apples, pears etc.

Make smoothies with a little milk or even better: yoghurt and soft fruit like bananas and berries.

Trap all toxins with lots of fibre and eliminate them from your body.

Pregnancy is challenging on its own and CANDIDA can easily develop let alone if you have it before you even get pregnant.

Probiotic supplements help but nothing beats a healthy fibre rich diet with fresh yoghurt and fruit and veg.

Thank you. I do struggle with some foods you mentioned as have gluten and dairy sensitivities. Currently cutting down on the sugar. Hoping seeing a nutritional therapist will help. Have heard not to do anything drastic if pregnant as when the candida dies off it produces toxins. Waiting to see if we have been successful this month! I've seen some candida recipe books will try and adjust my diet gradually in the meantime. Thanks for your advice x

You are very welcome. I had it when breastfeeding and it was very painful in my breast. It was due to exhaustion and stress mainly. I finally decided, it isn't going to control me any longer but after I had antifungal medication.

After any course of antibiotics it takes up to 6 months for our gut flora to recover.

Give yourself time.

Thanks stress seems to have caused mine - stress and anxiety sorted but left with IBS/Candida! Will get there!! X
