I borrowed my tens machine from my sister who thought it was amazing and really helped her with early labour contractions. I, however, found it incredibly irritating and pulled it off in a fit of rage :) :) I think if you can rent or borrow one, give it a go! If it helps you’ll be glad you got it and if it doesn’t it hasnt cost you much!

I loaned one from one of the midwives... was ok at first but useless when contractions got strong was useless so got an epidural ... second time round didn't bother with tens and didn't have time for epidural so was pretty much natural as gas and air makes me dizzy +++

I don't think there's any side effects... if you have any medical condition or things like a pacemaker I'm not sure if you can use it and def. can't use it in the water

I used it with gas and air and thought it was brilliant until the later stages of labour when nothing seemed to work so I asked for pethidine then epidural!

I used the tens and found it super. I was in labour for a few days. I did worder if the tens made the contractions worse as they said to put it in early. I was obsessed that it needed to be on for fear of putting it on too late. Then u are preoccupied with pushing the boost button. I would wonder about early labour would I have been better with out it. However they say that it needs to be on for early labour or it won't work. My labour did go on for 4 days.

Now the reason I though it was good was because I had no back pain at all. I took it off twice once for a bath and once for a shower. Both times had shocking back pain. If u do take it off make sure and get tape to restick it or use tape. The pad can be wet with a drop of water and reapplied but obs they will lose their stickiness after a day or two. I bought mine becausr it was on sale on mothcare and said I'd chance it.

I was not progressing quickly enough so was induced. My pain relieve was mainly Tens and gas and air. I decided not to go with the epidural for personal reasons. I was offered petadine but then waset allowed as they said I was going too quickly even though I wasnt.

I gave it to a friend afterwards and she also found it very good. Her labour had progressed too far for any other pain relief.

I used to use it it reverse. It feel like little pulses and then you keep upping the intensity. Like the fitness belts if u have ever used one on your tummy. For little money I though it was very good. I also found very gentle music good. Like extremly gentle I couldn't listen to anything with words. I did fall asleep for a while listening to the music. Getting your partner to use cold face cloth to wipe your face chest etc also helped.

I hope it goes really well for you x
