A mild iron deficiency shouldn't affect your baby while you're pregnant. But research also suggests that mild iron-deficiency anemia that goes untreated and becomes more severe during pregnancy – especially in the first two trimesters – is linked to an increased risk of a baby being born with a low birth weight.
Having severe iron-deficiency anemia may even increase the risk of stillbirth and newborn death.
If your blood test results shows that your iron levels are low, your midwife/GP will prescribe iron tablets which you should take as directed.

Hi. I also have iron deficiency and have been taking iron supplements during my pregnancy. I have been taking a combination of Spatone and Ferrous Fumurate and combined these have finally raised my blood count although my platelet levels are rather low. I asked the Midwife whether this would affect the baby and she said it doesn’t but it can mean that when you deliver the placenta you may have to have an injection (this reduces the amount of bleeding when delivering the placenta.) I have included a useful link below giving more information about iron deficiency in pregnancy. It does talk about home birth but I found it useful regardless.
In regards to stillbirth, as far as I’m aware there are a number of factors that can cause this but I’ve never heard of iron deficiency being a contributing factor.
Thanks for information both Zane and rebina... actually I lost my baby in the womb it self. My mid wife told that due to lack of blood circulation as well umbilical cord has been surrounded to neck of the baby with 3 layers. So my baby died. Is it possible...
