If you are in the UK the first midwife appointment is around the 10 week point. You should phone your GP surgery and ask what their procedure is.

In the meantime you should take a pregnancy multivitamin and avoid certain foods. A list is provided on the nhs choices website.

Congratulations!

I booked in with the doctor when I found out then they usually work out how far gone you are and give you a rough date to book in with the midwife.

My midwife saw me at 7 weeks. They usually see you between 8 and 10 weeks but my midwife was going on holiday and she wanted to make sure she saw me before she went as we've had 2 previous miscarriages.

Your midwife will do a blood test and a urine sample, get your weight and height and ask questions about you and the father of your baby. Also explain a few things, answer your questions and then book you in for your 12/13 week scan and book your next appointment which is usually 16 weeks with midwife.

Wishing you all the best! X

You will need to go to your GP and tegister your pregnancy and then they will send you a letter with your appointment for the midwife about 10 weeks. Congratulations

Congratulations! Each doctors surgery and Midwife unit is different so you will need to call them and ask them what to do - for instance I called my surgery and was told to go in to collect a short form from them and fill it out. Once I’d handed this in I was given a pregnancy pack and the Midwife rang me 1-2 weeks later to give me an appointment for when I was around 8-10 weeks (I was 9 weeks at my appointment). They trust the standard over the counter pregnancy tests so don’t have to confirm the pregnancy themselves. They work out the number of weeks pregnant from the first day of your last period. I had to fill in the pregnancy pack as much as possible before my appointment and then when I saw my Midwife she asked a lot of questions about what I’d written (a lot about my medical history, family medical history and my mental state). She then tested a urine sample to check for infection, protein and sugar. I didn’t have bloods, weight and height checked until my 12 week appointment (which can actually be anytime from 10-14 weeks) at the hospital for my dating scan.

The NHS website is really useful and points out what you should and shouldn’t be doing (eating, exercise, taking vitamins etc) and gives an indication of what appointments to expect at what time and what they involve. I have also downloaded some apps which have articles and tell you how big your baby is each week. Ovia Pregnancy is a good one and so is BabyCentre. Hope that helps! Xx

Congratulations on your pregnancy! Please start taking your folic acid from now on until 12 weeks of pregnancy and then continue with multivitamins and iron supplements. Regarding seeing your midwife, you can self refer to the hospital you want to have your care by accessing the self referral forms available on their website. Alternatively, you make and appointment to see your GP and then the GP will refer you to the hospital. You will receive a letter regarding your appointment once this procedures are completed. Hope that helps!

There's really no urgency about this. I would suggest to look at the NHS choices website which has loads of info.
