Secondary infertility

Just wondering if anyone had experienced a similar situation. Had my first child in Oct 13 after 6 months of trying. Been trying since July 15 and nothing. Had tests my husband is fine. I was still ovulating. Not sure where we going wrong. Don't feel like we're getting anywhere with the hospital with already having a child.

I'm so sorry to hear this. I haven't personally, but one of my best friends had three miscarriages trying for her second child and the doctor/hospital wouldn't do anything until she'd had three - it was heartbreaking. After three she had tests and they all came back that there was no reason for the miscarriages but the next time as soon as she found out she was pregnant she had to start taking aspirin. She now has a beautiful 4 month old baby.

Keep asking your GP for advice and help. Often relaxing and not thinking about getting pregnant helps - but who can do that when its what you want!! My other tip which I believe helped me get pregnant is the cough medicine Guaifenesin - it breaks mucus down so its easier for the sperm to swim to the egg! I tried for 5 months without using it, didn't get pregnant, first time I had sex after having some I fell pregnant. Second time I tried for two months without using it, used it on the third month and fell pregnant! Anecdotal I know, but it worked for me.

Good luck!

If you already have a child and still ovulating there is not reason why you should t get pregnant. It could well be stress. Have you tried using ovulation kits or an ovulation/period tracker?

The NHS will not offer you ivf option if you already have a child (even if it's not your child and its that of a partner!)

Hi Cazza I’m in the same boat finding it tough. My Dd was born March 14 and been trying since feb 16 with nothing! Just tried ivf and it failed ;( now going to do lots of research on improving my eggs. How are you now? Xx

Thank you. Still no pregnancy and struggling with any help from consultants. Waiting lists too long. Sorry to hear the ivf failed. Did they say why? Fingers crossed it happens for you in the future!! Have another appointment in November. Will see if they come up with anything xx

Hi, didn’t happen to me but my sister had the same problem, she got pregnant with the first baby after few months but took her over 3 years with the second, although she isn’t from UK the doctors here wouldn’t do anything as she already had a baby so it is like some kind of conformation everything should be ok it’s just your luck, shocking.

Have you try to track your BBT as this can sometimes provide some answers as well as if it indicates some abnormality the doctors might do something more?

Good luck I have been trying for few months for my first and it brakes my heart every month when we unsuccessful so I can’t even imagine how it might feels for you after so long.

Good luck

Thank you everyone for your lovely comments. I haven’t been able to get pregnant. I guess it’s just wasn’t meant to be. I am 38 in January and that was always my secret cut off. I have been put on 100mg Clomid but I think the problem is now my ovulation as it’s low on the 21day test. I’ve had all the tests and this is the only problem. Thanks for listening

I know your original post was a year ago, I’ve just seen it and I’m going through secondary infertility too. Apparently there’s not really anything wrong with either of us, at least not enough to cause infertility. It’s makes me feel really rubbish, especially this time of the year when everyone seems to be making announcements. I literally feel invisible. Anyways, at 38 don’t count yourself out. I’m not counting myself out either but it’s still not easy to deal with xx
