ICP/OC pregnancy itching

I've had itchy legs and had put it down to hormones/increased blood supply but as it has worsened spreading to my arms and back I called midwife team who advised they would do tests for ICP/OC. Looking at my onlinef notes this morning and they are only testing liver and not bile salts. Does anyone have a similar experience- should I be insisting on bile serum test?

Liver tests normally include a bilirubin level.

I had cholestasis with my last pregnancy and had my son at 37w. They're checking me weekly with this pregnancy. My itching was on the soles of my feet and palms of hands, which is usual. It's a liver function test and they will see the bile levels in your blood. It's a serious condition so they will definitely be checking everything. Good luck, the itching is horrible. Really hope you get the all clear x

I had the exact same issues, I'm going to inform my OBGYN-doctor, I just found out 3 weeks ago I'm 17 weeks pregnant! I was shocked considering I'm 43 and this is my 1rst pregnancy! By the way I'm in the US😊

When I was in late pregnancy I developed a condition known as polymorphic eruption of pregnancy. It started as an itchy rash across my stretchmarks, and then progressed down my legs, across my breasts and down my arms. By the end it looked like I had spent a few hours rolling in nettles. It was intensely itchy and uncomfortable but otherwise harmless. I have no idea if this is the same as you are experiencing, but if you go to a doctor, do mention it. I had to go private and see a dermatologist to get this diagnosed. My friend who is a senior midwife had never heard of it before, but it does exist! You don't say how far you are, but you should go and get the liver test, as people suggest. Just wanted to say that it could be something else. Good luck!

I experience thes same itchiness and i guess it has something to do with my 14 day missed period.

Make sure you get tested properly. My sister complained she couldn't feel her baby move and went in to the hospital. They said she was fine and sent her home. Then she suffered with itchy skin and when she went back into hospital the baby had died so she had a stillbirth. I'm not trying to frighten you but awareness needs to be raised of this condition. Not one of us had heard of it until this happened a few weeks ago. So very sad for her.

That is so sad, sorry to hear of your sisters loss. I got advice from ICP support who confirmed that liver function and bile acid tests need to be undertaken. Tests done on Friday and awaiting result, and given outcome will keep pursuing tests if itching persists.
