Hi everyone,I went for my 12 weeks scan today and consultant told us baby's brain hasn't developed properly.Condition is called Acrania,we were devastated.I started taking folic acid even before I got pregnant, so this was a massive shock.
I am 29 so consultant said isn't the age or something I have done wrong, but I can't stop feeling guilty.
Has anyone else been in the same position and had healthy babies after.
Thank you

I was googling it hun and that really seems to be the kindest option. I'm so sorry your going through it. I hope tomorrow goes by as easily as it can. 😪 I will say a little prayer for you both 💔
Hi Anibani4ka - I'm so sorry to hear that. Probably best to speak to your Dr about it? You must be heartbroken - take your time to recover and get over it and hope you have lots of support at home? Hope today goes as well as it can and sending you some virtual love and hugs xxx
So sorry to read this. I don't have personal experience but Acrania sounds like Anencephaly - are they the same? There seem to be stories on the internet about women going on to have healthy pregnancies after anencephaly or those who already have had healthy pregnancies. I found this thread for example: community.babycenter.com/po...
I understand that you must be feeling all sorts of emotions but I think your decision was the right one and the kindest thing to do. It seems to me as if with Acrania and Anencephaly it's not fully understood what causes this. Hopefully one day science will understand more because it must have been devastating for you.
Hi ClaireEliza, thank you for your reply and kind words.
Ancephaly and Acrania are virtually the same thing as the doctors told me.
Abortion was the best decision as baby wouldn't live more than a few hrs even if I continued with my pregnancy.I want to try again as soon as I can, so abortion was the best decision.
I feel so awful after my first dose of pill today, second dose on Thursday,it is a little comforting to know I am not alone and other people have been through this and had healthy babies after that.
The fact that nobody knows what causes it is so frustrating,I wish I knew how to prevent this happening again.
I wish all pregnant women and mums all the best and happy, healthy babies.
