Loss of appetite and VERY lethargic first trimester

Hi I'm 7 week pregnant and I don't feel like eating anything. I'm not sick but hate the smell of most foods. The few things I still enjoy are cereal (no sugar), bananas, satsumas, grapes and orange juice. Is this normal? I'm concerned I might be malnourished as I'm really really tired and sleepy too :(

Hello dear! On week 8 my nausea kicked in- so I hated all foods till week 16 when it happily ended! I always loved fruit and 1 decaf coffee and 1 decaf tea a day- but in week 8 I started to hate it all- specially everything sweet, oily, meaty. I felt so unwell those 8 weeks. I never been seriously ill in my life, never been in hospital - so those weeks felt like a hell to me 😭 I even nearly did not drink as it was making me nauseous. I was very concerned about baby and malnutrition but - as I knew that prior pregnancy I was eating well and hopefully I stored some vitamins and minerals, and was taking pregnacare - baby hopefully could take anything from me what he needs, all I did was trying to stay alive!

So don't be harsh on yourself if you can't eat and "give the best" for the baby now- you're not failing being a "good mothe"r- you're only hooked with your hormones that define at the moment what you can and can't / like and dislike to eat! Hopefully it won't get worse for you!x

The first time I threw up was at 7 weeks, yes it feels awful and I was also really worried about what I was eating, there was a point where I was just eating bread and crackers! But at the same time I was taking my prenatals so that kind of helped me feel a bit more sane! In the end it turned out that the prenatals were making my nausea and vomiting worse!

Thinking of you Thingandgeorge - my appetite is ok but shattered????! Another level of exhausted. I'm the same regarding smells, only time I've been sick it has been due to really strong smells. I seem to be a sensitive soul regarding smell at the moment.

Try and take a pregnacare supplement as well, so you are getting the nutrients you need. Would you be able to eat anything with protein in it? Eggs or chicken? Do what you can eating wise, try and eat a balanced diet but you are eating healthy you just maybe need some protein and carbs chucked in too.

The tiredness thing - I'm 11 and a half weeks pregnant and I am so tired it's unreal. I'm hoping it clears off soon :( My get up and go, got up and left about 7 weeks ago, if you see it, let me know and I'll come pick it up! :)

Thanks I'll try more eggs. I'm really not getting enough protein x

Similar to my previous post, this is all normal. Eat what you can when you can and try not to worry completely about nutrition at the moment. You are getting some fruit and veg and that is good. The smell thing is very normal. I couldn't go near the fridge, dishwasher or bins for months. Extreme tiredness is also very normal. I would fall asleep on the sofa by 6pm most evenings for the first 15weeks. It does get a bit better later on.

Eat what you can and rest when you can.

I went to bed at 7pm last night with my 15 month old and only woke up because she woke me up at 6:30. 😖 days I'm not working I'll have a nap with her too ... Bye bye house work! But there is light at the end of the tunnel, things did improve when I was pregnant with her around week 15/16. Just don't be too harsh on yourself. If you can't do/ don't feel like doing a 5 km walk then you don't have to push yourself.
