Hi all i just wanted some closure on something. Its not to do with pregnancy but its my ovaries. I have been told i have a cyst on my tight ovary and need further testing. If anyone can shine light onto the next steps i would be highly greatful.

Are you pregnant? Cysts on ovaries are very common and notmally nothing to be concerned about, they can reflect certain conditions such as PCOS or dermoid cysts if quite large. It might be worth discussing with your medical professional by what they mean with furthers investigations as sure,y they need to interpret the ultrasound scan to see what the next step is!

I'm not pregnant as this cyst was discovered 8 months ago and i was only told about it a month ago. I'm just scared due to the fact of still being very young and no family support. I know it may sound silly but i am generally scared. Thankyou for your advice.

Ultrasound is the next step, depending on the size and apparent nature they may operate (cystectomy). It's a common procedure through laparoscopy (keyhole surgery). They can then confirm the cyst is not malignant, which is the case in extreme majority of the cases. It can indeed be PCOS (5 to 20% of women have PCOS depending on regions of the world).

I have had surgery in July and now 12 wks pregnant after 5 months trial (I'm 33) so try not to worry, very common... it's good it's been picked up, just follow the Doc's advice.

It's hard, but please don't worry. I had a large one on my left ovary. It caused a lot of pain after ovulation each month and I wasn't able to fall pregnant. I had an ultrasound to detect it, then was referred to a consultant and had a laparoscopy to remove it (keyhole). It was quite straightforward, although I had to wait a few months for the op. I spent a night in hospital and it took about 2 weeks to recover. It was quite a large dermoid cyst and the month after it was removed I fell pregnant (after over a year of unsuccessful attempts!) sadly this ended in miscarriage but I conceived again 3 months later and now have a gorgeous one year old! So pleased I had the surgery, I was in a lot of pain and it got worse every month. I had a great GP who pushed my case through as she knew we were TTC. Good luck, hope you feel better soon xx
