Struggling

I am 21 weeks so over halfway thank goodness. Unfortunately the pain, sickness and fainting doesn't seem to be going. Just wondering whether anybody is/has suffered the same and how they managed. I have been signed off work which has helped relieve the guilt and stress (teacher) but some days even struggle to do basic tasks like washing up.

Hello,

Poor you. It's my first baby and I was sick until week 24/5, so badly it gave me gastritis and the worst pain I have ever felt in my life in my chest. It's hard when you read you should be blooming and feel terrible. I'm lucky to have lots of support at home and had some time off work but was able to go back. I'm staring maternity leave 10 weeks before baby is due as I've just started to feel better and want to enjoy this time getting ready before the little one arrives. I'm fortunate that I work 3 days a week so that helped.

I think my sickness was in part caused by acid - I would wake up coughing and then be sick - brushing my teeth made me sick too - GP prescribed me a course of ranitidine and that helped.

Rest lots, cry if you need to, watch box sets and look after yourself - try not to sweat the small stuff - who cares if there is a bit of a mess. You will get though this bit. I'm 29 weeks pregnant now and feel tired but otherwise ok apart from the odd ligament twinge. Now I can feel my baby moving much more and that really helps as it gets bigger and stronger.

Take care X

Glad to know other people have time off work too. I am taking early maternity from 11 weeks before mainly because we are also relocating. I am trying to think of my sick leave as readjusting - teaching was my life and I am using this time to become more of a home bird. Just wish the sickness would go away for long enough to get jobs done.

Hi there, hope you are starting to feel better. I am a Mum to 4 beautiful girls, with my eldest so many years ago I had the most severe vomiting, tiredness, nausea and could not keep most things down. I was put on anti sickness tablets which made the situation worse, this lasted for 6 months unfortunately. I spent most days lying down on the couch as I had no energy at all. However after that my appetite came back to normal and baby was 2 days late weighing in at a healthy 3.1 kg, the most beautiful baby ever. It took me another 11 years to have a second one as that put me off completely. It is worthwhile and she is turned out to be the most amazing young lady at University now. My youngest will turn one next month. Focus on meeting your baby and continue to look after yourself. That is the most important thing. All the best and you will soon get there. Mums are the most strongest people on this universe, only God knows how we do it. Thank God for the strength and perseverance............................. XX
