Sleep struggles

Is anyone else struggling to get comfortable at night on their side? I'm 18 weeks so sleeping on my back is no longer possible although sometimes I wake up like that without realising. Side sleeping has started making me numb on my hip and shoulder.. Is anyone else having this problem?

It's horrible isn't it. I couldn't sleep properly between weeks 16-20 I ended up being exhausted! I don't know if this will give you hope though I've finally gone back to sleeping although I visit the toilet at least twice a night but manage to go back to sleep quickly. I can offer no advice except try and not use your phone if you wake up. I played a game for hours one night on my phone and ended up with tendinitis in my arm!

Even just to hear someone else who has gone through the same thing helps, doesn't have to be advice. I have just found my old dream genii pillow, I'm hoping this will help. First time round it was a god send!

Hiya,

Sorry to say this but I now haven't managed a decent nights sleep since I was about 12 weeks 😔

I can't get comfortable - I normally sleep on my tummy but initially my boobs were too sore to do that and then just as they settled down my bump was starting to feel uncomfortable if I lay on my front.

I had awful trouble with my hips and shoulders from being on my sides but they do seem to have adjusted to it now.

Definitely worth trying one of the huge pregnancy pillows- mine is like a giant nest and it takes up over half the king size bed, much to Mr's annoyance! It is comfy though and it definitely helps now that I have a bigger bump. Now 31 weeks and dreading the next 8-9 weeks of my sleep getting even worse 😔

Saying that, I now don't feel as tired as I did so I think I have adjusted to the lack of sleep........preparing me for the next few years!

I definitely agree with the comments about not doing things on your phone and stuff (she says lying here at 7 am on a Sunday morning wide awake with phone in hand!) and sometimes now I just have to get up and do stuff! I'm surprised I'm not baking cakes and things at 3am!

Forgot how handy the dream genii was.. Absolute god send! last night was much better although this hip thing is annoying me a bit. I have read up that any hip pain in pregnancy will be put down to SPD by the professionals and can be remedied with some tweaks in everyday lifestyle however there is no way I am able to slow down with a 2 and a half year old and a high energy dog to look after. I haven't come across anything yet about how changes in diet could help with the pain which I'm a bit surprised about. I was thinking i might be lacking in one of the omegas and oils so am planning on loading up on my fish intake however I'm not a huge fan of fish at the moment. This is a huge inconvenience as my first pregnancy went so well, didn't have one pain or problem at all. I'm nearly 29 and physically feel like I'm in my 60's... And I'm generally quite active.. How is that possible?!?! One thing I cannot live without is my hot water bottle. This usually helps with any pain and sends me to sleep pretty quick, even if I do find myself waking up a few hours later.. For those who haven't tried it might be worth a go.

I saw those huge pillows first time round, they looked amazing but I couldn't face kicking Mr out of the bed as we definitely wouldn't have all fit. They're supposed to be so comfortable for breastfeeding once baby has arrived.

Ps, my phone is on flight mode and away from my bed every night.. that's one routine i insist on!

Hi.

I am 24 weeks with twins and sleeping for me his hell I pop myself up on about 8 pillowers to support my back and that's how I get some rest but it leaves me exhausted. As for the hip pain I am about to start physio cause I physical can't walk. Have u tried getting a double mat pillow and run it along front and back and c if that will help.

Yup I'm now 26 weeks and started getting uncomfortable at about 15 weeks. I've got a V pillow which I prop my belly on and one leg so it eases the tension in my hips. I also tend to get a pulling sensation down the side of my stomach I lie on so the pillow helps that too.

I would advise many pillows to support yourself, I sometimes use one under one side of my back and one under my belly so I can lie at a 45 degree angle on my back that seems quite comfy.
