Long haul flight and 6 weeks pregnant

Hi, I'm 6 weeks pregnant and I've been working in Asia for a month, I've asked to come back to the UK early as I'm feeling quite stressed out. Has anyone any advice on traveling on a long haul flight so early in pregnancy?

Unless you have an underlying medical problem, it's safe to fly throughout pregnancy. You're not allowed to fly in late pregnancy by the airlines in case you go into labour in the air. The only reason you may not wish to fly in early pregnancy would be the possibility of enduring morning sickness while travelling. My doctor advised me to wear thrombosis socks during the flight and to make sure I drank plenty of water and moved my legs every half an hour, but then again that's advice all long haul passengers should follow anyway. Some women don't like travelling during their first trimester in case something goes wrong and they find themselves far from home or in an unfamiliar country. You are generally at a greater risk of mc before 12 weeks while the pregnancy establishes itself but unfortunately this could happen anyway and would be like having a heavy period. My doctor advised me that so early on that there wouldn't be much they could do to save the pregnancy anyway so I'd might as well get on and stop worrying about it as long as I felt confident enough to endure such an occurence in the country I was travelling to. To be sure, your feeling stressed and getting yourself all worried about travelling will be far more detrimental to your condition than hopping on a plane and coming home. Just get good leg socks for the journey and drink plenty of water. Oh and tell the airline if you're suffering from morning sickness to see if you can get priority boarding to avoid standing in queues and aggravating the discomfort as well as asking for a seat nearer the toilets just in case.

Good Luck and Bon Voyage.

Hi ya!

I just cam back from Tussia (Far East part near China) it was 9 h on the train +8h flight +4 h flight.

I was about 5-6 weeks pregn that time.

I didn't really have any symptoms so it was like a normal trip for me (just like the one 3 weeks earlier when i didnt know im pregnant) except my hubby did the hard job with 4 full luggage bags.

Just try to relax/sleep on the plain and don't lift anything heavy!

Take care! x

Thanks for all the information and advice much appreciated.I'm going to try and get an aisle seat, because I've been up I don't know how many times at night to relieve myself. I've been feeling nauseous for the past week, but thankfully I haven't been sick. I finished up work today as I'm flying tomorrow night. I'm going to spend the day relaxing and take it easy. Thanks again for the advice.

I got off my flight, had intercourse with my husband and then I started to bleed, it was light at first and then on Sunday it became heavy and I got serve cramps. I went to A&E yesterday and the doctor said it is highly likely I've had a miscarriage. I'm going in for a scan today to find out. :(
