Hi all, everytime I walk anywhere after about 5 minutes of walking I get a sharp stitch like pain on both sides of my bump going downwards towards the middle of my pubic area. Is this normal? Starting to worry as its getting worse each day.

Thank you for reading

I can't say if yours is normal, but if it's any consolation there's a number of us in pain in that area all the time. I personally walk around as though I've had an accident. I think I've read that the side pains are the ligaments stretching and if you think the uterus stretches into a lightbulbish shape it kind of makes sense. Best thing is to tell the MW who will prob refer you to Obs Consultant if they're unsure. Let us know how you get on.

It was for me, but from 18 weeks. It's just everything stretching, and your body trying to let you know that you can't do things like you used to. Try slowing your pace, and taking regular breaks when walking, and they should ease. I hope that this helps :)

It could be everything stretching like afore mentioned posts (round ligament pain) or it could be pelvic girdle pain, I had neither with my first pregnancy but have had pelvic girdle pain this time round (pain in hips, pelvis, back, stretching and heaviness of bump and pain right down the centre of my pubic bone, heavy legs, all affecting day to day activities and very apparent when walking) it varied from being tolerable and a wee bit niggly to being "I feel so sorry for myself and don't know what to do with myself" - your midwife will keep you right. I got referred to physio on NHS but after 3 weeks of waiting for it to subside and it not I was besides myself and went to see a chiropractor - 4 sessions later, all symptoms have gone and they were massively improved after the first session. I know it's disconcerting to be getting these feelings but for some of us it's just part of the journey, it's all worth it in the end! Hope things ease off soon, in the meantime, you may find that a bump band/support may help and sleeping with a pillow between your knees will open up the joint, think princess when getting in and out of the car and keep your knees together, same as when you get out of bed, don't spread your legs too far apart (use your imagination here!) and hoovering is the worst thing so get someone else to do it! Take care

Thank you :) Ive always had problems with my hips so think I will be referred back to physio. All your advice is very much appreciated. Thanks again x

Have started having same pain about two days ago and my baby is also 23wks old. Just made an appointment with the MW, hopefully it's nothing serious.

I'd say its normal with all the stretching and all. I'm almost 34 weeks and this has been happening to me since 20-something weeks. I get stitch pains under my belly when walking or sometimes down the side if I have done to much at work i.e bending and stretching. Its the weight. I bought a band from boots which is like a tubigrip for the tummy but its not that great but its extra support.
