Washing baby clothes

I never wash my own clothes when I buy them new but heard from others that they have washed all their baby clothes. Just wanted to know what everyone thinks about it? Did you wash your baby's clothes? Is it necessary?

I did not wash any of my babies clothes and I washed one vest with our laundry using the same detergent I normally use.I then but it on my basby and watched for any reaction.after a whole day she had not reacted so I now use the same detergent for us all. I do separate her washing from ours most of the time because I have a baby clothes programming on my washing machine to help remove poo and milk stains. If I did not have this I would make sure the programme I used had a good heat setting to kill germs on her clothes and would ensure it had a good rinse cycle to remove an detergent. I do not use reusable nappies so do not know about them.

I've only ever washed the baby clothes I've been handed down, didn't wash anything new until my little girl had worn them, and wash all our clothes with the same detergent. Occasionally depending on what I'm washing & how dirty/pooey/milky it is, I put some napisan in with the load as it's anti bacterial so I don't have to do a really hot wash xx

I washed everything, because I read that sometimes clothes are treated to look brighter and it can sometimes irritate newborn skin (at the moment I don't use baby toiletries on my daughter for bathing etc, because newborn skin is so delicate).

It's recommended, but not necessary X

I only washed things that were given 2nd hand. Washing brand new stuff just seemed likeva totally pointless thing and yet another think to do thats not actually necessary!! My son never had any issues, I dont know anyone that did it! Just make sure you use non bio detergent and I cant imagine you will have any trouble! X

I wash everything as new born skin is delicate and some of the dye and chemicals are still on the items and can rub on to the baby's skin, I also use a non bio and do a baby wash, I will continue to do this until about a yr old then I slowly introduce our washing powder, I also find that sometimes I need to do a hotter wash due to stains.

And it also gives the clothes that lush baby smell and I love it!!! :)

my son is almost 3 and I still wash everything he has new before he wears it just in case.

My husband worked in a clothing factory before going to university for some work experience and he always washing new clothes for himself and I wash mine since meeting him after the stories he told me and we washed our children's. It's up to you.

New clothing should be washed as they have thr chemicals from treating/dying the material still rather strong on them. Also, you don't know if he clothes were dropped in the factory before packaging, and anything hung might have been sprayed with starch to make them hang nicely.

Its known to be a good idea to wash " baby clothes" in particular before worn because many clothing warehouses & factories get dozens & maybe millions of material items delivered every day & therefore most of the materials such as baby clothes & etc.... may end up being placed on the floor.

I have washed all of mine because working in retail I saw that when they arrived in the packets they smelt really chemically and were often stuck together with the chemicals ... also many of them then got kicked all round the stockroom, mop water splashed on them, etc .... then we put them on a hanger and straightened them up for the shop floor!!

My children suffer from eczema so have always washed them in non bio before putting them on as things can easily irritate their skin, my eldest (9) has grown out of eczema (now got hayfever typical) so not so worried about hers now but my 21mth still has it so when this next one is born (due today but it lost the memo) ill wash them in non bio ready as no doubt it will have eczema too, they get the best genes from me lol :)
