Bit worried about baby's milk intake.

He's weighing 6.5kg. Can anyone with a baby of similar weight tell me how much your baby is drinking per bottle and per day? He's a premmie so giving his age and corrected age is redundant. He has a dietician that monitors his health etc. I'm just curious about how he's doing comparatively.

The guideline is 150 to 200ml per kilogram body weight per day. With a weight of 6.5 kg that would be 975 to 1300 ml per day. With my son, this guideline almost always applied. During a growth spurt he'd have slightly more, when teething or unwell sometimes significantly less. But I know babies who had much less and are fine nevertheless. My son was always very mobile so burned more calories than a comparatively quiet baby.

Hope this helps x

Yeah I know about the 150ml/kg. He drinks btwn 640 and 740. On a good day he'll take 800. Had to take him off premmie milk due to allergies. He looks nice and healthy but as I have to keep a food diary for the dietician, I'm very aware his much below he is. Drives me nuts as he just won't drink more.

My. 12day old daughter weighted 6 lb 10ozs at birth then dropped to 6lb 3 Oz's, she was very sleepy so I was advised to feed 2 hourly rather than 4hourly. I know that you are bottle feeding but as I can not tell how much breast milk my baby is taking I rely on the amount of dirty/wet nappies my daughter produces to gauge if she is getting enough. She has stared to put on weight now. May be you could record these as well as the food diary and be reassured that your doing well.

Lol my poor baby has everything recorded. He was born couple of months early so he gets weighed biweekly, had his length and head circumference recorded etc. He picks up weight fine-ish. If he drops any further of his centile though his dietician said she might have to fortify his milk. Was just wondering how accurate the 150ml guideline was off paper.

My daughter was 9 weeks early, she came out of hospital 4 weeks ago. In hospital she was waking up 3 hrly on the dot, taking 58 ml then back to sleep. Enroute home from the hospital she had to wait in lovely warm sunshine and cool breeze and we're all positive that resulted in her oversleeping that day for her feed.

I don't believe in waking a baby up and feeding them so straight away we got into a situation of demand feeding (neonatal nurse was not amused lol) and we had to do a food diary so the nurses were happy she was getting the right amount.

She's now 8 weeks old, 3.44kg and supposed to be having 619 mls a day - she has between 6-8 bottles at 120 mls a pop every time and finishes nearly every bottle.

I've kept in touch with other parents from the unit and some are sticking to 3 hr cycle and baby's refusing to take the full bottles so significantly less than the rec amount, others have changed to 4hr and find baby takes too much/ and some are demand and finding less/more or right amount.

I know your wondering for comparison but to be honest most of what my daughters nurse and dietician said just outright was not right for her. Every baby is different and they cannot categorise them accurately, so I'd say follow what you and the baby feel right with and see if they are putting on good amounts of weight, if they are don't worry about what other babies of that weight are taking xxx
