Natal hypnotherapy -- best book/CD?

Hello ladies!

I'd really like a natural calm labour (I'm only 12weeks in my first pregnancy so thinking ahead!). Does anyone have any experience with UK Natal Hypnotherapy? I'd like to buy a book in the first instance but would like some advice on the best one out there.

Thank you!

Hi kitty Kate, I was the same and posted on here but didn't have much success. I bought one anyway when I was about 35 weeks but think I left it too late in the day to reap much benefit from it. My baby is now 11 weeks so I no longer need it. Where are you? I will send it to you? Are you able to put an email address on here so I can contact you for your details? It is a self hypnosis for birth cd x

Hi kitty kate - i did a course called The Wise Hippo. It was fantastic really helps you to understand exactly what u need to do during labour. I was in labour for 60 hrs and only had gas n air for an hour at the end. You can start from 20 wks. I couldnt recomend it enough xx

Hi I did a hypnobirthing course and truly believe it worked wonders for me. I was looking forward to the birth instead of being petrified which I was before going on it. My labour was less than 5 hours with just a bit of gas and air. And I have a beautiful baby girl who is so content with life sleeps pretty well and feeds amazingly.

Hypnobirthing is based on the mongan method and is quite American but with a good teacher is really worth it.

Good luck and congratulations enjoy pregnancy.

I did The Mongan Method hypnobirthing course a couple of years ago when pregnant with my first and have just done a refresher for my second. It has been superseded by a more UK friendly course called Wise Hippo. I would recommend the course I did, it's more expensive to do with a practitioner than reading a book, but for me very worthwhile and I thought it was much better than the NCT course I did at the same time (although I met some great mums to be at the NCT course and we supported each other during the early days). I liked to be able to ask questions and practise in the sessions which my husband also attended - he wouldn't have practised or known what to do if we hadn't done the course, it focused both of us, and your birthing partner needs to know what is expected of them - it's a team effort bringing a baby into the world. If you want to know any more about what I did, just reply to my post.

Hi, I'm halfway through my hypnobirthing course. My partner and I are having private lessons with a qualified teacher. I would recommend the Katherine Graves version as she is a British practitioner so it talks a lot about the NHS and what is common practice in the UK so is a little more relevant than the Mongan Methond, but our teacher teaches a bit of both. If you're only 12 weeks, read the book and see if it appeals to you and if so I would definitely encourage you to book onto a class. It can be a bit pricey but with the best will in the world, I'm not sure self teaching with the book will cut it. In my mind I weighed up spending £250 on the course or not feeling like I was as happy and prepared in the labour when then time came. For me the money seemed a small price to pay if I get my lovely calm home birth (here's hoping all goes to plan!). Its certainly an interesting read whether the method is for you or not and now I genuinely have no fear whatsoever about the impending labour and I'm actually really excited to go through the experience. Its a lovely feeling to be excited and eager for it rather than have fear and worries. Its not for everyone but for me, I'm so glad I stumbled on it around 24 weeks so you're way ahead of the game. Sorry for the huge post, I'm a proper hypnobirthing cheerleader and want everyone to see how awesome it is! Good luck in whatever plan you choose :)

I down louder some mp3s off the internet and bought some books of amazon. There are courses you can do but I couldn't afford them as the cheapest I found was 300 pound, if you just go onto Google it comes up with different methods and you'll be able to decided which one would be best for you, my advice is to start asap, I had a hydro hypno birth ( water birth with hypno techniques) I just listened to the mp3s and went to my zone was very relaxing x
