My little boy is 6 weeks old and does exactly the same thing asnd he twitches like mad in his sleep..glad to know someones experiencing the same thing !

My boy does that, with little smiles and funny faces...so cute to watch lol. He also does the odd shriek thing like ceri said. And mine generally makes loads of noise and fusses about to an incredible level lol. I never know if he's awake or asleep haha! Strange little things :-)

It is all normal! My lg did this and it has settled down now at 13 weeks! There are periods where it seems like they don't take a breath for what seems like ages but is only around 5 seconds and it is all normal! If you are ever worried just ring your HV they should set your mind at rest! X

Yes, I agree its normal. Both my los did this. Someone suggested that it is them remembering the birth, so it may be worse for some babies than others. My first is now 3 and a half and started with the odd night terror at about 2and a half, which are similar and equally scary for you but not at all disturbing for them as they don't remember them!

There are different stages of sleep. Newborns spend the majority of their time in REM (rapid eye movement) sleep. This is the stage they're in when they pull funny faces, their eyes flicker, they smile etc. it's the lighter stage of sleep and gradually lessens as they grow. It's when they're dreaming & practicising what they've learnt that day x

Agree totally with georgiepinkfeet. I read this about rem when I was in hosp. It is so hard to tune out at night when thy r breathing really heavy.

So glad u mentioned this my little one does it. .. makes me panic but u have put my mind at rest :)
