Can anyone help me I have ibs and it's really flared up today, can I take Imodium as that's all that really helps I'm 22 weeks pregnant?

You really aren't supposed to take anything like that whilst pregnant. I do admit that one time at about 18 weeks my ibs was so bad I just took one to calm it. I never did it again though. The further along I got in the pregnancy, the better my ibs got....to the point where I forgot I ever had it! Even now 7 weeks after birth, it still hasn't returned....yet lol x

I know it says you shouldn't but it's not going to be a regular thing, did taking it help you & done no harm? X

Yep it helped and no damage done. I was more vigilant about what I ate after to try to prevent a major flare up again so I wasn't in that position.....easier said than done though isn't it. Ibs is sometimes so unpredictable!! I hope it gets better for you as u get further along :D x

You could try calling your local out of hours pharmacy and see if you can speak to the pharmacist - they are often more knowledgeable about drugs and side effects than GPs.

Hi there. My IBS got really bad at the start of my pregnancy. Like fattyboom I did take immodium once, when things were really bad and I was desperate (I'm a singer and was about to go on stage!). But yes, you're not meant to and best to avoid it if possible. It's a sod of an illness, isn't it? On the positive side, I've been so much better in the past couple of months, and have heard lots of people say the same. Fingers crossed that things improve for you. X

I have expected chrons (was under investigation when I found out I was pregnant) and I took Imodium throughout pregnancy. Tried not to take it but probably averaged 2-3 times a week I had to resort to it. I had however discussed with the GP, midwife & gastro consultant & for me it was the lesser off two evils. My boy is now 9 weeks and is absolutely perfect x

I would just take a trip to your doctors, find out what is safe to take, then you won't feel like you are gambling with your babies health. Everyone and everyone's baby is different each react differently, just live buy one rule and both of you will be ok " IF IN DOUBT, THEN CHECK IT OUT". X

i have suffered with chronic constipation ibs for years before I was pregnant. Even enemas didnt work :( I had to have a concoction of meds just to get me to poop at least once a week. In the first few months of pregnancy I got really bad again because I wasnt supposed to take some of the meds I was on and was only allowed lactulose and fybogel. But this last month or so, I have not taken any meds as I have been pooping at least every other day and I cant explain it. Pregnancy seems to have temporarily cured my ibs, its great.

I dunno much about the diahorrhea side of ibs, you have my sympathies as I'm sure it must be really difficult to cope with. With any meds u should always ask a professional if it is ok to take them. Have you thought about the pharmacy counter in Asda or Tesco? They appear to be open 24hrs and can help advise about immodium in pregnancy. I hope u get relief soon xx
