We are planning to fly to France to see my in laws soon but I'm not sure what to do about buggy and car seat. They will be picking us up from the airport so I need the car seat. Do I have to book these items in as oversized luggage? I looked on the booking page for the flights and I can't see any info. we will be flying with Ryanair and I have heard they can be incredibly fussy and charge lots extra if you don't make your booking just right!

Any advice much appreciated x

Hi hun! Ryan air can be a nightmare! They appear to charge extra for any additional infant equipment after 1 buggy

There is a link on the website to the info...

I myself, because the website is so unclear... would call customer services and ask them to explain everything over the phone! Make notes and also if you have a smart phone, you can download an app that allows you to record incoming and outgoing calls! I know it sounds extreme but they have had so much bad press lately regards to charges and weaseling out of things it would mean you have everything on record should an issue occur!

X

Thanks guys both replies really useful! Not sure why I couldn't find that link myself, my baby brain is still awful!!!

Isn't it terrible that they want to charge £60 for baby's return flight - it's more than what I can pay for my ticket! Cheeky buggers!!!

As far as Im aware the Airline may need you to check-in all of your extra items I.E... Car seat, pushchair & etc... just like you do for your luggage because it then gets given an electronic tag (like the one on your suitcase) so it then doesn't get put onto the wrong plane or something.

I know this as I used to work in an International airport & it honestly depends on which operator your flying with & sometimes the mood of the member of staff who helped you to check-in your luggage/ items on the day.

I did think about that-can put my car seat on the buggy chassis but lo not a fan of car seat and much happier in buggy!

Sometimes it's cheaper to buy a car seat when u get out there x

I just flew with easyjet last week and checked in my car seat for free at check in (in oversized luggage) and took buggy to aircraft to go in hold. Both items no charge. As far as I know Ryanair charge but it'll tell you somewhere on their website, it's just finding it ! If you're on twitter give them a tweet. I did with easyjet and they were ry good x

We took our first lad abroad when he was 10 months old and we took just a stroller pushchair with us but other families had there normal everyday prams with them which I didn't think you could do. The only thing I would say is our stroller got trashed by being thrown about so whatever you do take make sure it isn't expensive. You can hire alot of things from the airport but I would take plenty of antibac wipes to give it a scrub down.
