pain under bump while walking.

I'm 22weeks today and for past week everytime I walk more than 100metres I have this really horrible stitch-like pain directly under my bump around my hips on both sides. When the pain strikes, it seriously affects my walking ability and I'm nearly crying with the agony.

I usually walk 25mins or so to get to town at a brisk pace to get the bus to work in the morning and have tried leaving the house 45mins before bus is due to give myself a chance to slow right down but it still hurts like hell.

Has anyone had similar around this time? does it disappear after a few weeks? Is it due to a growth spurt of bump?

Any help or advice appreciated xx

Yep, I had pain under my bump at around 21 weeks. Sounds like you're in a worse state that I was, although it really affected my movement - I particularly felt it when I tried to stand up after sitting for a bit, also when walking. Did mention it to the GP, who felt around my abdomen and said I was unusually tender - never did get a reason really, so I guess it was stretching of ligaments etc. The good news is that it has got much better over the last week, so I wasn't suffering too long. Hope yours eases off too. Although if you're in that much pain, might be worth just checking with the midwife or GP. That's what they're there for, after all.

Hope you feel better soon! xxx

I've been getting exactly the same!! I'm 25 weeks tomorrow and have been getting the pains for a few days now and doesn't seem to be easing off. I don't know exactly what it is but I have noticed my bump has had quite an obvious growth spurt so I guess that could be it. I've also been getting pretty intense pressure with the pains aswell, don't know if you've been getting the same?

Sorry I don't have any advice just glad someone else is going through the same thing!!

Hope you feel better soon xx

Baby Getting Bigger and ligaments are relaxed.. think u need to listen to ur body and take it easy hun not such long walks now...mention it to ur midwife... or see ur g.p walking 100meters and being in pain is not good especially if u have to walk that far too get to work! :(

work is about 4 miles away but the nearest bus is about 1.5mile away so i cant ditch the walks unfortunately. I hope it is just some ligament pain coz that pelvic girdle pain does not sound good at all xx

With that kind of pain there is a chance it is pelvic girdle pain (or spd). Have a look at info on NHS website and see if it sounds similar. If so ask for referral to physio as it wil need to be actively managed x

Just a thought, it could be start of Pelvic Girdle, I suffered but it didn't start until mid 3rd Tri or am wondering about maybe using a bump support when you walking. I wouldn't rely on it too much though as your muscles will weaken and we don't want that post natal & they also help to deliver your baby as my OH will tell you my Abdomen went triangular when I was baring down. I've always had good strong abs so hoping to see them again soon :-) x

thanks everyone, I think ill make an apptmt with the midwife and ask her opinion. Fingers crossed its nothing like pgp or spd xx

I'm 25 weeks and I get the same stitch type pain when I walk quickly. My husband does 'do' strolling, he speed walks around town if we go shopping -possibly to stop me lingering at shop windows ;) but I've noticed that lately I cant keep up with him anymore. Not only feels like stitch but my belly goes rock hard -Ive decided that the fast walking makes Baby Nutella turn quickly as if she's bracing herself against the front of my belly, with her back facing outwards.

If your belly is going rock hard have you considered these may be 'Braxton Hicks'? X

Not at 26 weeks? Surely?

Oh yes, surely. They are nothing to worry about. I had a few early on, might have even been around that 24+ mark, belly would go solid for about a minute, I felt no pain. There is ever chance this is going on in sleep too so not aware. Then I got them again at 34 weeks when we had really hot July weather and did have pain with them, again short lived. Nothing more until I laboured for real :-)

Well Baby Nutella has been poking about around the cervix area so she'd better not be getting any ideas about an early appearance! ;) Funny story: Went out for a curry with Husband last night. The waiter asked if baby was well, which was nice :) Then he asked: "Just one month to go?" Me: "No, three" "Three?!" "Yes, three" "Three?" "Yes" ...Oh dear :S

Hi I used to get the pain around 18 weeks and it was due to wearing too tight clothing, make sure your maternity clothes are loose enough. Also I find that if I don't make sure that I pee before I leave, I'll start having the pain and I hardly can walk and have to make stops to just give myself a break from the pain.

If the pain persists even after you sit down/rest for 30 minutes you should contact your midwife and just get checked over.

Hope this helps, good luck!
