Couple of questions..

Hi everyone.

As you may know, recently found out I am pregnant. When working it out, I've guessed I'm probably around 5 or 6 weeks gone. I've recently moved which has meant I'm not registered with a GP. I'm booked in to have my new patient health check on the 27th - I'm just wondering - would it be best to mention to the practice that I'm pregnant before this or would it be okay to wait until I see the nurse for that health check?

Also, some of you advised folic acid.. I've bought some from the shops, nothing fancy just a supplement. Should I start taking it straight away or would it be best to speak to a doctor about it all first?

Sorry I'm probably going to post a fair few questions, first pregnancy and I've not told anyone bar my OH yet! xx

You could ring surgery and see if could get an earlier app if you wanted, they'll prescribe folic acid anyway. Maybe just ring and see if they'll give you number for making your booking app with the midwife as that's all doc said to me when I went in first place. Is all a bit confusing when you've just found out, but in fairness now docs tend to hand you straight over to midwives so whenever you go they'll tell you make a booking app anyway. Usually think its supposed to be 8 weeks-ish (mine was at12wks as 1st doc told me I wasn't pregnant I had a virus - strangest virus I've ever had lol) so don't think waiting would be to much trouble either. depends how busy your surgery is x

yup u can start folic acid and vit. D supplement straight away. I took pregnacare (now taking its breast-feeding version) and they are having 3 for 2 offer (might be good if u wwant to take it throughout the rest of pregnancy like me, i safely avoided cravings nd got a 3.72 kgs healthy baby girl :)

I bought folic acid when I found out I was pregnant, but switched to pregnacare on the advice of my GP.

I would let your surgery know you are pregnant - although you can self refer to your local antenatal dept. x
