Many many many congrats for your pregnancy! Wey, hey!! With regards to cramps, it is normal in the first trimester as your body is getting used to the hormonal changes and the growing uterus. Spotting is normal too (I bled for two weeks) but to put your mind at rest give your GP a call (if you don't have access to midwife already). As a rule of thumb they say you should worry only if you have lots of blood that is fresh (bright red). Brown (old) blood and spotting is usually a sign of implantation - when the fertilized egg attaches to the uterine lining - which can trigger a few days of bleeding. When it happened to me I called my GP (I have to say I was panicking) and he sent me for an early scan to reassure me that the baby was OK.

Congratulations. ..I had cramps around this time too...never had spotting but know plenty of people that have. As baby mummy says if its dark blood I wouldnt worry its only if its fresh and bright red. Take it easy...not long till ur first midwife appointment I guess thats when it all feels bit more real x

Me! I'm 5 weeks and cramping all the time. This forum is a reassuring place.

People do bleed but obviously in pregnancy ur not supposed to always get bleeding checked out. .. see ur g.p who will arrange for a scan. .. congratulations :)

Dear muffin , I have gone through similar a similar experience twice and I was referred to the local Early Pregnancy Unit (EPU) for an early scan, the first time I went through A&E and the second time I got my GP to refer me...it would be good to get an early scan for reassurance ....all the best and congratulations :)

Hey Muffin1983,

Congrats!! I had really, really bad cramps from 3 weeks to 8 weeks and bleeding at 10 and 12 weeks (only 15 weeks now). The GP sent me for an early scan at 6 weeks and again as a precaution with the bleeding. Luckily all was well. It's definitely worth getting in touch with your GP though as it really helps to settle your mind once you see the 'bean' on tv! Hope all is well :)
