Takes me ages sometimes to get burps up and if she doesn't burp she gets tummy ache and trapped wind! Any tips greatly appreciated. My LO is 11 weeks xx

Well I haven't had my baby yet so I can't speak from experience only pass on what I heard at baby natal class.

To reduce wind - if breastfeeding double check they're latched on correctly. If bottle feeding keep the teat full if milk throughout the feed.

Once they have wind - rub in an upwards direction on their back. Try sitting them on your knee - your hand under their chin and one in their back then rock them forward and back whilst rubbing in upward motion on their back.

There is also a 'tiger in the tree' colic position you could try but tricky to explain - search Internet for pictures!

Hope this might help - sorry if you've heard/tried all of the above already!

I might be posting for some help myself in the next few weeks!

Oh, thats fine

Post away!! If I'm honest I hope I can still find the time to log on after the birth of my 2nd child coming up in November Haha!

I Always found holding them under the chin and holding their back and sort of lifting them up so u straighten their back used to help and a good patting and rubbing...a bit of gripe water can help x

Yes I agree with "babymother's" comment. It sounds a bit barbaric & cruel but sometimes "I used to find with my son who is now 4yrs old" I would have'to sort of squeeze the burp out of him by having one hand under his chin & the other hand in support of the back & gently lift his torso / chest.

xx

Thanks ladies. That's how I do it but she's so stubborn, just refuses to burp sometimes!! Anyhow nearly 12 weeks so fingers crossed she'll grow out of it by herself very soon. She seems to be handling it better recently. Everyone says 12 weeks is the point where the colic/trapped wind stops but going to give her 13 as she was early :-) xx

Over your shoulder and slowly walk up and down the stairs! Sounds daft but it works for us!! X

Something that worked with my first daughter (tho not with any other) was to put a pillow on our laps any lay her over it whilst we rubbed her back upwards. My sons both seemed to burp (or vomit!) whilst in the 'tiger in the tree' position (laying along your arm). My other daughter was a lot like yours any some days nothing we did seemed to help until she grew out of it. Someone recommended lying her on her back and making gentle circles on her tummy for a few minutes before burping her in the sitting position people have talked about but we had inconclusive results! My husbands seemingly fail safe method involves starting the rub around where the babies tummy is before bringing your hand up the back in approved fashion - I can't make it work but he does have a much better burp success rate than me - and not just with the babies!
