Hi, sorry I'm not sure about either of these in pregnancy but do u know that u definitely have low iron, magnesium and calcium levels? If u do then I would think ur gp could prescribe suitable supplements? If not then would it be worth making an appointment to have ur blood checked as u might not need to take anything?

If u do need them and aren't getting them from ur gp you could try speaking to a pharmacist about them as they should no wot u can take. If not maybe try calling ur midwife to put ur mind at rest or nhs 24?

There's more iron in pregnacare - 125mg. Not sure about Ca and Mg content off the top of my head. The main thing you have to be cautious of in pregnancy is too much vitamin A... Xx

Is there anybody who has iron deficiency during her preg? I wonder when they do test? I went to GP and said no test. Health system is not proper in UK very bad.

They Do another test at 28 weeks I think. ..I would personally just stick to pregnacare all the vitamins and minerals are at the correct dosage for pregnant women xx

You can request an iron test - that's what I did anyway. I phoned my midwife who told me to go to the antenatal ward in the hospital where they took my blood for all sorts of things, including iron. Shouldn't be a problem - and I agree: there should be regular tests for calcium and iron for pregnant women in the UK!

It is best to ask your GP for a blood test to assess your iron and calcium deficiency, if any. Then he will prescribe supplements as needed. Be careful that high concentration iron supplements can be dangerous without medical supervision.

Try to get your calcium and iron naturally as they will be absorbed best. You can get enough calcium by having 3 servings of dairy a day (1serving= 1 glass of milk or 40gr of cheese or 1 small pot of yogurt). As for your iron, if you eat meat and eggs you should be fine. If you are a vegetarian, pulses like lentils and any dark green leafy vegetables will do.
