Cot / Moses BAsket - opinions please!!

Hi All

Wanted some views / opinions really

Anyone know what is more ideal or whether it is ok to put baby straight into full size cot or is it completely necessary to buy a moses basket / small crib

Also any one got any good recommendations on a nice cot / cot bed?!

I got a pine nursery set from Argos.

With my 1st we put the cot in our room. We kept the moses basket downstairs so in the evening when we put him down in it we would just carry the moses basket up stairs and put it in the cot as we did not have a stand.

Before I had my 2nd we got a moses stand but when my husband shipped my little boy out of our bedroom as my son snored to loud it was keeping us awake we just put the basked in the cot again. Newborns just look so tiny in a cot, I never took mine out of the moses basket till about 4-6months old.

moses basket ! agree totally with megzey .

ask friends who have had babies if they have 1 u can lend so u don't have to buy 1 , u can get new sheets / sets for them if u really want , but they are in them such a short time even when used they are like new , im pregnant with my 2nd and will b lending off my brother again .

I took my moses basket with standd using bounty offer and it came out pretty cheap (within £50). Also if you are unsure about your residence like me (i might be moving out of the current house) than I think a mosses basket is more easier to carry around.

Plus, if you have not bought a travel system yet and plan to invest a bit more in it, than some travel systems come with sleep-in pram-baskets and I was told at Jhon Lewis that they can be used as moses basket without worry (those had a lot of ventilation holes on the base and a sturdy frame around). So have a look to that too

Thanks. Sadly no-one has one I can use I gave borrowed a buggy a Quinny with a carrycot I emailed Quinny to see if was safe to sleep overnight they said they don't recommend it

Kiddicare has loads of moses baskets that come with sheets/stands and stuff for very reasonable price they also have cotbeds on there aswell, u can go to kiddicare and look around then order it online as their service is brill. I will be having a moses basket in our room and then his cot will be in his nursery as his cot wont fit in our bedroom. I think moses basket is gd as u can move it around and is quite light weight. x

We opted for a Moses basket so that we can move him around - because you know I'm going to have a great baby who sleeps all the time! I haven't even looked at cots yet, thought that could wait a few months. xx

were only in a small flat and if i have carrycot wont need to move baby around too much cot will fit in our room.. just a faf to put it up then move it in a couple of months!

I have both like megzey I put the Moses in the cot until they no longer fit within comfortably. I borrowed my friends crib for downstairs so I don't need to manoeuvre the Moses. I bought my Moses second hand with the stand was a bargain for mamas and papas. The cot I have is ikea along with the best quality mattress they provide less than £200 I think. I'm converting from Aed and we spent around 1000.

One quick question.

Is it necessary to buy cot bed? Can baby sleep in mosses basket for 1st 3 months. Is it safe for baby to sleep in mosses basket?

Actually i might move to another country after my baby is born.

I had a cot bed for my first it was really handy as once he finished with it my daughter used it when she was old enough to. Baby can sleep in Moses basket but it really depends on how compfy and snug they get. Mine was in them till just under 3 months but that's because they developed long legs. where are you thinking of moving to? I've been out here for 3 years 2.5 in Bahrain and 6 months in dubai.

Something to consider is how big your baby is likely to be. I'm quite tall but still thought I'd have a tiny baby. My 10lb 8oz little princess did not fit comfortably in a Moses basked, and the crib we got her was too narrow. She's never liked being swaddled or closed in so she ended up co- sleeping with us till 4 mnths old when we were able to afford the cot mattress. She tended to sleep in her bouncer chair through the day or in a sling on my chest. I'm not going to bother with Moses baskets or cribs with any future kids. You can buy newborn cot inserts or just roll a blanket up and place to round them (going round the body not the head of course) to make them snug. Personally I found buying all the other stuff was a waste of money. Got our nursery set off eBay. £100 for a stunning nearly new cotbed, wardrobe and chest of draws with changer top. Best of luck anyway, maybe it was just me who didn't get on with baskets and cribs.
