Rock Hard Belly

Im 34 + 5 and belly keeps going rock hard, sometimes all over and sometimes in 'patches', quite painful sometimes and feeling a bit sick.

Braxton Hicks maybe? or just strange movements from baby? he is very active - always has been!

Anyone else had/having this or any advice?

Thanks :o) x

I guess it's probably the postion of his body. Now your well into 34wks he's engaged himself into your the right postion ready to be born in the next few weeks.

Neverless it does sound uncomfortable :-( . Not long to go now though.

Sounds like a combination of the two to me. Braxton hicks are like tightenings that make your whole tummy go really hard, usually last for a few seconds (mine were up to a minute in very late pregnancy). And once my son had started to engage he used to flex his bum outwards which would make the bottom half of my bump go hard - he still wiggles his bum whenever he gets excited ;-)

Sounds like everything's starting to practice for D-day which is great! If anything starts to feel painful as opposed to uncomfortable, or the tightenings become regular give your midwife a call just in case x

Seems like the position of the baby, I remember mine going like that and being squisshy on the other side sometimes and it would hurt on the side that the baby was lying. I cant describe braxton hicks as dont think I had it with either of mine.

Sounds like braxton hicks to me. I'm 34+6 and experiencing exactly the same thing. Can be uncomfortable but not painful. They last about 30secs a minute with me and getting them all day long. Apparently changing postision should ease it but doesn't work for me. If you have 4 or more per hour and they become painful check with your midwife or hospital as could be labour starting. Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy x

Haha! Also sick of hearing about it. Especially the size of my bump being compared to Kate's. I feel like an elephant next to her, I am huge, due on 5th July but c section booked for 28th June due to placenta preavia. Kate is 5'10" and I'm 5'1" tall so I guess that would make a difference. I swear I'm going to have a bonfire and burn all my unflattering maternity clothes!! She doesn't seem to have worn any maternity clothes but I bet she still has massive pants under those lovely clothes LOL!!

My gynaecologist advised me that if I get "hard belly" ALL OVER my tummy and pains that come back repeatedly e.g. every 30min-1hr, then I should go to the A&E. It may be an indication of pre-term labour that can be stopped with tocolytic drugs. If you get patches of hard belly but no severe pain, then it is probably the baby stretching. It is worth calling your midwife for advice.

Thanks for the advice, its all gone back to normal now and just get the same movements as before! :o)

Kaley, im dur 5th July too! Kate has of course has a stylist so her bump is 'dressed' do hide it! if she worse a pair of jeans and a vest like any normal person she would look much bigger! and good point about her height! i'm 5'1 to and pre pregnancy size 6-8 so any bump is going to look huge on me!

Good luck with your section! not long now!! :o)
