A tip to cure horrible taste in mouth

Hi Everyone,

After hanging around and reading lots of posts for the last 10 weeks, I've finally plucked up the courage to post something!

I mainly want to post to help other ladies who might be suffering...

I found out I was pregnant at 4.5 weeks, which seems like forever ago now! I was pleased and a bit cocky at first cos I felt absolutely fine. I was a bit worried as they 'sick is safe'!

Well, I needn't have worried but 6.5 weeks I was well and truely sick 24/7!

Thankfully from 12weeks this has started to subside and everyday is a little better :-)

However the one thing that didnt get better, actually got worse, was the horrible taste in my mouth :-( Constant yucky taste that only disappeared when eating but then comes back straight away! Even brushing teeth or chewing gum doesn't help. It's horrible.

So I got some advice from the midwife but not sure if this is common knowledge. She said that the change in hormones can effect salvia production and make it more acidic. This is what leaves the horrible taste. She recommended gargling with a weak solution of bicarbonate of soda in water to help.

Well, I was very apprehensive (thought it might make me sick!) but I tried it today and it has totally worked! My mouth feels the best it has done in 9 weeks! It wasn't the most pleasant experience (I was sick!) but totally worth it. I can now enjoy my day and look forward to food and feeling normal.

I hope this helps others out there, as this never really comes up as a common pregnancy problems.

Thanks ladies! xXx

It's not too bad, just a bit weird tasting. The trick is not too much bicarb. I did 1/4 teaspoon in a cup of water. Think it was the thought of it and the gargling that made me sick! I'm still going to do it everyday though, it's made such a difference.

I feel like a normal human being again!

I was constantly on kids candies, lolipops or chewing-gum in my mouth for first trimester.

Maybe some of the toothpastes with bicarb might help, I think arm and hammer does one, good luck

Hi fresh pineapple chunks are good for getting your mouth back to normal. I work at a cancer hospital and one of the patients told me to try it. As sone of the medication causes a metal taste I tried it and it works.
